Conversations with Phantom Nerds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phantom Nerds.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in 2019 when we decided to make an iMessage group chat and our fellow nerd, Kendall Allen, suggested the name “Phantom Nerds.” The purpose of the group chat was for us to have a place to talk about all things anime related, a forum if you will. Then in 2020, Howard Mokolo and Roosevelt Mayes were at a bar talking about anime and talked about them making a YouTube page where they just talked about anime. Then they messaged Kendall to see if he wanted to join in with them and start a YouTube channel about anime where they debated different topics.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Covid was a big obstacle for us because we had just started our channel, so after recording our first three episodes, we were unable to meet in person. We had to switch to zoom recordings, which made us lose a little motivation for the channel. But as time went on we got our drive back and persevered through the challenges.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On the Phantom Nerds YouTube channel, we specialize in content based around anime, comics, and gaming. When we started, we aimed to provide a platform for people who enjoy these things and be a home for all needs to be able to have a place to bond and feel connected.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Best advice we can give it to just start and put something out there that you enjoy!! Many people make the mistake of not being authentic in their work and viewers can pick up on that.

And the most important thing is to have fun while doing it so your viewers can feel like they are having fun with ya. AND STAY CONSISTENT!
