Conversations with Ravyn Bright and Destini Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ravyn Bright and Destini Thomas.

Hi Ravyn and Destini, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our journey is one of our favorite stories to tell, it has been nothing short of amazing and fulfilling. In August 2013, a lifelong friendship was born. We met our senior year of high school and have been inseparable ever since! From being friends, to teammates, and now business partners we have experienced it all. We often get asked, “ How is it being best friends and business partners?” We always respond by saying we wouldn’t rather do it with anyone else.

We have faced our own challenges but we always stand firm on putting your friendship first and working to find ways to take a break from business mode and just enjoy each other’s company. Every day that we go to work we get the opportunity to do what we love and create lifelong memories with each other that one day we will get to tell our children! In July 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic, we created Captivating Creations, LLC. We turned our love for planning events for friends and family into what is now a successful business.

Every event is a new opportunity to captivate our clients and their guest. We enjoy seeing the smile on our client’s faces, and knowing we played a small part in putting it there. The support from our friends, family, and clients has been absolutely incredible. We hold dear to our hearts all the relationships we have built with vendors and clients. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As young entrepreneurs, we have faced a multitude of challenges and obstacles. One of the pivotal challenges we faced was pricing. We knew that we produced quality work, using high-quality products and materials while also exhibiting outstanding customer service. However, we struggled with properly charging the correct amount for our hard work and the materials used.

Attending an entrepreneurial luncheon one of the speakers emphasized the importance of knowing your worth, and charging clients accordingly. Figuring out a concrete price list and accepting nothing less than what we deserved was essential to our business’ survival. Understanding this concept instilled the confidence we needed to reevaluate our pricing and way of business. Although we feared clients would decline booking due to the price increase, we were confident that our work was well worth it.

In addition, time management was another substantial obstacle we overcame. Throughout our first year of business, we struggled heavily with balancing our time, which lead to unnecessary stress and burnout. After revamping our approach for our work week, we were able to come up with a plan that evenly distributed tasks amongst the two of us. This helped eliminate the number of all-nighters we had to pull before event days and even helped bring back our joy of doing what we love.

While many entrepreneurs praise the late night and early morning concept, we love our sleep over here and try our best to ensure all of our work is completed by our set deadlines to avoid sleepless nights! As businesswomen, we have learned that adversity will always come. It is not our imperfections that define us, but instead how we respond, and persevere.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Here at Captivating Creations, we cater to all cultures, celebrations, and all of our client’s visions. We specialize in custom backdrops, balloon arrangements, tablescapes, both personal and corporate events, and more!

Our mission is to combine your vision, with our innovations, to produce captivating results, all while providing exceptional customer service. We look forward to building a lifelong relationship with each client and making them a part of the Captivating Creations family. Event planning is more than just a business to us, it’s a lifestyle.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Throughout the past three years as business owners, we have learned multiple valuable lessons. The most important lesson we’re in the process of learning now is social media marketing! We pride ourselves on providing our clients with high-quality work. However, we often sell ourselves short by not showcasing our work to the world.

In a society that is extremely social media driven it is important to have an active presence online for prospective clientele to see. In order to do this, we have learned the importance of filming our setups, purchasing sponsored ads, and posting daily on our social media platforms. Since we have implemented our new strategies, we have noticed a drastic increase in followers and new inquiry forms!
