Conversations with Raymond Peña

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymond Peña.

Hi Raymond, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our founder, Raymond Peña, got started in the donut business as a teenager in 1978 when he worked for his mother at her local donut shop. During those years, Ray knew he wanted to start his own restaurant one day.
After being a Houston fire fighter for 20 years, Ray opened his first restaurant in 1996 in southeast Houston. Ray has enjoyed having a business and being a part of the community for over 30 years.
Peña’s believes in the mission of serving delicious, fresh and high quality food to guests in a fun and friendly atmosphere. We hope you enjoy your experience!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The early struggle way back in 1996 was juggling a career as a Houston Firefighter plus my wife having her career with a sub contractor of Nasa. Also road construction during the early years of our Shadow Creek location. Nothing is ever smooth, you just keep working hard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Deborah, my wife of 44 years has been biggest supporter. She is the major reason we have been so successful. As a team, Debbie and I have created the most creative concept in the food industry. We continue to produce the most delicious donut in town. Now the best part of our concept is incorporated delicious fresh food to our menu. We have a full breakfast and lunch menu to compliment our donuts. Our coffee is second to none. That sets us apart from our competition.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up with a large family.
