Conversations with Rebecca Bond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bond

Hi Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My start is the same as many other artists; I loved drawing and coloring when I was little and it began there. I would spend hours drawing horses, mountains, trees or butterflies. Really anything from nature. Nature has always been a big theme in my art and still is today. I also adore color and try to bring as much color as I can into my creations. My work today is more focused on abstract works of art and less realism. But every once in a while, I feel inspired to create an abstract version of a tree or bird. We all go back to our roots at some point.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an Artist, I want to have the maximum amount of time in the studio painting. However, there is so much other work that you must do to get your name out there. You must market yourself, create reels or videos and social media postings, maintain a website and other sales sites. It can be exhausting and it feels like you never have enough time for the art itself. It takes effort to make a name for yourself and to get your work in front of people. But, when you have something important to say through your art, you can never give up. Creating art is a calling and as an Artist we must answer that call and share our gift. That busy work can be daunting, but its a necessary part of sharing that gift with the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in two different mediums: traditional painting using acrylic or oil paints and pastes; and alcohol ink combined with pens and paint. I am known for creating whimsical colorful artworks that are otherworldly and fantastical.

I consider myself to be an intuitive artist. I paint what I’m feeling. I love color and forms that flow, and feel fluid. This is usually what lands on the canvas.

Being a bit of an introvert, I am always thinking about life and experiences. While working through my thoughts on things; my thoughts are what I tend to paint. I may be thinking about a walk in nature that I just took, or feeling joyful from a mediation session. I just paint how my heart feels at that given moment.

I think that my soul is speaking through my artwork. I think that what sets me apart from others is the way I put myself out there in the canvas. I say whats in my heart through the paint brush. I don’t hold back. My message is a positive one and it’s usually about growth, perseverance, positivity, beauty and love. I want to leave my viewer with a good feeling in their heart.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My best advice for an emerging artist is to keep learning and honing your craft, whatever it is. Find your voice and let people hear it. Don’t be afraid to try new techniques, but figure out a way to make it yours. Once you find that confidence, people will notice and the right people will come to you. Start that IG page! Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid. We get one chance at life, make it count.
