Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Poche
Hi Renee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Houston in 2017 as a freshly graduated veterinarian from LSU. During my years here I was using dating apps to meet people, when a casting producer from the show Love is Blind messaged me in instagram asking if I would be interested in being on the Netflix show. I went through a 6 month process and was eventually cast for season 5. After an emotional roller coaster of events, I’m here today in a lawsuit with the production company Kinetic, and their network, Netflix, over the poor treatment my cast experienced during filming.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a whirlwind of emotions. I had to put my TV dreams on hold when I was faced with a 4 million dollar lawsuit after talking about what I experienced behind the scenes of filming Love is Blind. I was planning to work with a much better production company on a different show, but had to turn my focus to these legal battles. In the end, it will be worth the fight and all of the future contestants that partake in reality TV.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Despite the drama of my lawsuit, I’m still a practicing veterinarian working at a non-profit shelter in Houston (Houston Humane Society) where I’ve been able to follow my true dreams of working with, and saving animals in need. I’m currently in a master’s program in Veterinary Forensics to broaden my work with animal cruelty.
I’m most known for my story being cut from my season of Love is Blind, and exposing the abuse behind the scenes.
I’m proud to have used my voice to stand up against this production company, and hoping to change the future of reality TV. They are still trying to silence me, but I have much more in store. With my team of powerhouse celebrity lawyers we are fearlessly fighting back. We are taking this all the way to the top.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’d recommend those interested in the true reality behind the filming of reality TV read Emily Nussbaum’s book “Cue the Sun: the Invention of Reality TV.” She also did a deep dive into Love is Blind in an article for The New Yorker titled “Is ‘Love is Blind’ a Toxic Workplace.”
