Hi RonNesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Angie’s Scents Candle Co. was founded in 2023 as a tribute to my mother, who passed away from COVID-19 in 2020. What began as a deeply personal journey through grief slowly transformed into something far greater than I could have ever imagined. In the midst of my healing, creating candles became both a form of therapy and a way to keep my mother’s memory alive. I began by testing scents with members of my church, gathering feedback and refining each fragrance with care and intention. From those humble beginnings, Angie’s Scents has grown into an award-winning brand rooted in love, legacy, and community. Today, the business offers a curated line of products including candles, room sprays, car fresheners, carpet fresheners, and wax melts. And this is just the beginning, several new product launches are planned for 2026, so there is much more to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is anything but easy. If you truly want to test your faith in God, become an entrpreneur. This journey has been filled with unexpected challenges and valuable lessons; from manufacturing issues with my oil supplier, to carefully selecting the right jars, to navigating a few overly enthusiastic candles with flames that burned a little too bright. Every step required patience, discernment, and trust. There were moments when the process felt overwhelming, even discouraging, but each obstacle strengthened my resolve and deepened my faith. Through it all, I learned that growth often comes through trial, and perseverance is part of the calling. While the journey has not been without its bumps, it has been incredibly rewarding, reaffirming that every challenge was worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I am most proud of is knowing that I am keeping my mother’s legacy alive one candle at a time. Losing her meant losing my first best friend, and grief tried to have its way with me. Grief has a way of reshaping you, challenging your strength, and testing your spirit. Instead of allowing it to define or defeat me, I chose to channel that pain into something purposeful. Angie’s Scents became more than a business; it became my healing, my testimony, and that’s what truly sets me apart from others in the industry. Every product is created with intention, emotion, and story; not just fragrance. This journey allowed me to transform grief into purpose and passion, creating a brand rooted in authenticity, faith, and legacy. Today, Angie’s Scents stands as a testament to resilience, love, and individuality, and it is well on its way to becoming a household name.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is to trust God’s timing and remain obedient, even when the process feels uncomfortable or unclear. There were moments when I wanted to rush growth, compare myself to others, or question whether I was truly equipped for this calling. But I learned that every delay, every setback, and every challenge was preparing me not just for success, but for sustainability. This journey taught me patience, discernment, and the importance of staying rooted in purpose rather than profit. When I focused on honoring my mother’s legacy and walking in faith instead of fear, everything aligned the way it was meant to. That lesson continues to guide every decision I make.
