Conversations with Rosalyn Santiago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalyn Santiago

Hi RoSalyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been interested in art and creating things. I started drawing and playing instruments when I was a kid. My oldest brother was a musician, so I used to sit in on his rehearsals in our basement. I began writing in high school, mostly short stories and notes to myself. As I got older, I dropped music and kept drawing and writing. In college, I discovered filmmaking and scriptwriting. I’ve written and co-written several scripts.

I also make body butter, soap, lip balm, and hand sanitizer with natural ingredients because commercial products contain harmful ingredients such as propylene glycol and many others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Unfortunately, I was blessed with more than one talent so choosing one and sticking with it was difficult. I’d start something and when it didn’t take off right away, I would abandon it. The biggest struggle was a lack of support and belief in myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since 2001 I’ve been working in healthcare. My latest two positions were provider data management and business analyst. Although I love working with and helping people, I hate the corporate world. I’m much more content with script writing and creating images using AI.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like all the green spaces, great restaurants, the rodeo and a never-ending list of things to do. I hate the humidity and violent thunderstorms.
