Conversations with Roshunda White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshunda White

Hi Roshunda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Roshunda White.
This May I was shot 5 times by my husband in front of my kids. He then drove to unspecified location, pulled his dialysis port out of his neck which sadly ended his life.

Thankfully I Survived! However, my children and I are forever scarred by this tragic event. My husband was the provider. Imagine trying to heal yet worrying how things will work out financially. Certain program could not assist me; including Crime victims (even though they approved me)because they are a reimbursement organization. I didnt need a shelter. I had a place to stay, I had a vehicle, and of course if there are insurance policies that takes time. Do I sit and lose everything while i heal? That was the birth of The May Foundation of Houston! So many people stay in situations due to financial dependency. I felt hopeless. I am committed to being in a position to offer financial assistance to Survivors by paying up to 1 month of rent, car note, car insurance, offering bill assistance but more importantly giving them HOPE. As I grow, I want to offer counseling, mentors for youth and teenagers who are victims, and for those without a place; housing assistance, transportation assistance, vouchers for food, toys, employment assistance, credit assistance, financial knowledge and faith based growth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When starting out the challenge is getting your information/business out there.

The true struggle is trying to finance a business when you’re just starting out.

However, Romans 8:28 gives me daily hope. All things will work out!

What does success mean to you?
I define Success as walking in your purpose.

To me, success is not a dollar amount but the ability to truly impact lives in a positive way.
