Conversations with Saba G

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saba G.

Hi Saba, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I used to be serial dieter. Trying the most ridiculous fads to lose weight. My efforts were always unfruitful because once I stopped fad dieting, I would gain the weight back and then some. In 2017, I decided to try keto. I jumped in head first without doing much research, so the beginning of the journey was trial and error. Being a foodie who loves to cook, I quickly learned to tweak my favorite no-keto/low carb recipes and found substitutions for my favorite ingredients. In 2019, my sister encouraged me to share my journey and recipes on YouTube. On January 29, 2020, I launched my YouTube cooking channel- Savoring with Saba and my social media accounts, Instagram and Facebook accounts- SabaSavors. Through my brand, I’ve been able to connect with so many people around the world, grow and learn from my community, and experience opportunities I never anticipated. It’s been great being able to share my story, encourage others, and build a tribe.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having comes easy. During the first year of creating content, I did a lot of research. I identified food trends, learned technical skills to better help me shoot and edit my long form content, and experimented with marketing strategies to grow and expand my audience. Content creation really is a full-time job! One of my biggest challenges was learning how to edit my YouTube videos. I had no video editing experience prior to starting my channel. I can’t tell you how many YouTube videos I watched on Premier Pro! It was rough, but necessary. But, learning how to edit not only helped me learn how tell my story, but watching myself helped me identify how to be a better communicator and I should format my videos. I want my brand to empower others to try something new and expand their skills.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a content creator who developed a low carb/keto-friendly YouTube show, Savoring with Saba. Over the past two years, I’ve been on a mission to not only show people that cooking is easy and fun, but that a low carb lifestyle is easy to adopt. I feature easy, healthy, delicious meals that anyone of any skill level can try.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Identify your niche and see how to effectively community with that type of audience. Always be true to yourself because know when you’re being inauthentic. I’ve turned out brand deals that don’t align with my brand or personal goals. Never be afraid to walk away from something that doesn’t feel right or doesn’t feel like you.
