Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Glenn
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Everything started up north. I was born in Toronto, Canada and was raised in a small town outside of Ottawa. With humble beginnings I have always been a go getter and dedicated my life to sports, academics and creating art. The combined passion to master both crafts, specifically soccer and science, allowed me to get a full athletic scholarship to the Houston HBCU, Texas Southern. From there my passion for dentistry grew and I was accepted to the prestigious Meharry medical college. After completing the rigors dual masters and doctoral program I returned to my home away from home, Htown, to service the community. I practice at Accent Dental Group in Pearland with a focus in cosmetic dentistry. My passion for art fueled my passion for the speciality of cosmetic dentistry. Having an artistic background I naturally look at the art behind a smile. Blending all attributes of the face snd smile to achieve a patients desired look. Between smile consults, veneers, Invisalign, and Botox, Dr. Glenn has you covered.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been easy. I have dedicated 10 years of my life to academia to become a doctor. I had many challenges early on in my career that have molded me into the dentist and person I am today. My first challenge was being selected for an athletic scholarship. being recognized internationally for your skills brought its challenges as early as high school. However, after playing in several international tournaments I was recognized by my head coach, Tamura Crawley. Another major challenge I had was after being accepted to dental school, I could no longer could rely on my athletic scholarship to fund my education. International students do not have and access to US government funding for school. Due to the fact I was studying abroad from my home country I could only be granted a small loan from Canada to study in the US & that was not enough to cover the rising extensive cost of a 4 year medical degree. In my third year of dental school I did not have enough to cover tuition and as a result had to be removed from the program for half a semester. With the support of family, friends and mentors and a go fund me page, I was able to gather the funds to return to finish my education and become a board certified dentist. That was the most stressful and emotionally taxing time of my career but it made me stronger and dedicate myself to my goals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a board certified dentist in the Houston area. I Specialize in cosmetic dentistry which includes veneers, bonding, Invisalign, Botox to create smile makeovers. What sets me apart as a person is I pride myself in being Trill as Houstonians say. I always stay true to myself and remain authentic and genuine and translate that to my patients care. Also, my dedication to my craft sets me apart from others. I am constantly investing in knowledge of cosmetic dentistry through continuing education courses, conferences and being an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics. I am most proud of how far I have come in my journey. Outside of my career I am most proud of my family with my spouse Tim Frazier, a local Houston native and 8-year NBA veteran. Together we have a son who we just love to pieces. Being a mom is the most rewarding job there is.
What are your plans for the future?
Possibly opening a private boutique dental practice that solely focuses on aesthetics. But I enjoy being a part of a group practice where I can focus on cosmetic dentistry and smile makeovers where the other team of doctors can see other patients and we work together. That way any problem a patient has it can be taken care of at one location.
A goal of mine is to partner with my Alma mater and give back to the school community that gave me an opportunity to become who I am today and become the team dentist for the athletic department. Where I would provide emergency appointments for sports related dental injury and trauma and provide sports guards to all of the athletes to protect their dentition in high contact sports. In addition to finding a scholarship program for athletes interested in science programs or international students studying abroad.
