Today we’d like to introduce you to Scotty Joseph.
Hi Scotty, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Jerrard “Scotty” Joseph, and I am the founder of ScottysBikes. I am a Fine Artist and Freelance Graphic Designer by trade who has had exhibitions in major cities. As an avid bike enthusiast, I have always been drawn to the freedom and adventure that biking provides.
During the pandemic, when people were confined, I realized that many people were looking for ways to get out of the house and explore the outdoors. Houston’s warm weather provided an optimal year-round biking experience, and I saw an opportunity to offer electric bike rentals as a convenient and eco-friendly way for people to explore the city.
I founded ScottysBikes in Houston, Texas, with a commitment to reducing our carbon footprint by using electric bikes instead of gas-powered vehicles. Our fleet included electric bikes that can reach speeds of up to 28 miles per hour and have a range of up to 60 miles on a single charge. Since founding ScottysBikes, we have expanded our services to include bike rentals in Los Angeles, New York City, Atlanta, and Cartagena, Colombia.
We are committed to providing our customers with a convenient and eco-friendly way to explore new places and experience the outdoors. As an entrepreneur and bike enthusiast, I am excited about the future of ScottysBikes and the opportunities it offers to people who are looking for adventure and a unique way to explore the world around them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching ScottysBikes post-pandemic has presented some unique challenges as people are still adapting to a new normal. One of the biggest challenges we have faced is that many people are not yet familiar with premier services like delivery and pickup, which are central to our business model.
Additionally, many people’s perception of electric mobility is still centered on electric scooters for recreation in downtown areas. However, ScottysBikes offers a much greater range of mobility, allowing people to explore further afield and enjoy a more immersive experience of the cities they are visiting.
Despite these challenges, we remain confident in our ability to provide a valuable and innovative service to our customers. We have invested in marketing and outreach efforts to raise awareness of our services, and we are continuously exploring new ways to provide a convenient and eco-friendly way for people to explore new places and experience the outdoors.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance graphic designer and developer who specializes in creating digitally augmented reality experiences.
