Conversations with Seshni Naidoo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seshni Naidoo

Hi Seshni, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Seshni Naidoo, the owner and founder of Fly On The Wall Photography HTX. My journey into photography began with a Canon camera in hand and a love for capturing action as a sports photographer for Centerline Pro Air Hockey. What started as a simple hobby soon blossomed into a passion for capturing life’s most meaningful moments. Over time, I transitioned from action shots to heartfelt portraits, proposals, engagements, weddings, and other vibrant celebrations like baby showers, dinner parties, and quinceañeras. I’ve always been drawn to stories, and I love documenting the joy and beauty that make each event unique.

At 26 years old and completely self-taught, I bring energy, expertise, and sensitivity to every session, crafting images that reflect each person’s authentic self. Growing up in Houston, I discovered my creative side at The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where my love for artistic expression took root. Later, I earned a BBA in Marketing with a minor in Anthropology at UT Austin, pairing my artistic foundation with storytelling and cultural insight.

After two years in San Francisco working as a consultant in market research and advertising, I returned to my hometown of Houston. Today, I live in Bellaire on a charming nine-acre farm with my boyfriend and a lively crew of pets: two cats, a hedgehog, a tortoise, a duck, and an English Springer Spaniel.

I’ve always been known for my optimism and ability to find beauty in every situation, and I bring that same approach to my photography. I take pride in connecting deeply with my clients, creating a space where their true personalities shine. My business is “extrovert-run, introvert-friendly,” and I know how to bring out a smile—even from the shyest of subjects.

At Fly On The Wall Photography HTX, I don’t just take pictures—I tell stories. Whether it’s the quiet joy of a candid moment or the bold energy of a celebration, my goal is to create images that capture the heart of each experience. It’s an honor to preserve life’s most meaningful moments and share the unique beauty of the people and events that make Houston so special.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, and one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is navigating traditional marketing methods to connect with my target audience. Photography is deeply subjective—an art form that doesn’t lend itself to statistics or reasoning. People can’t always articulate what they’re looking for in a photograph; they simply know they like it when they see it. This means it’s essential to consistently share and promote your work because you never know who might be looking for a photographer or whose vision your photography will resonate with.

This unpredictability has highlighted the importance of community and networking in my journey. I’ve always believed in the power of connection and the value of building relationships. Photography is such an intimate and personal experience, and it often requires trust and familiarity. Leveraging personal networks—friends, family, and even acquaintances—has been instrumental in growing my business. Not only are people in your network more likely to support your work, but they also help spread the word to others who might need a photographer.

Ultimately, the challenges have taught me that building a successful photography business is about more than just technical skill; it’s about creating connections, fostering trust, and sharing your passion authentically with others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I primarily specialize in weddings and other vibrant events, but what really sets me apart is my true-to-color photography style. Growing up in the age of social media, I’ve seen how much curated and heavily edited imagery can warp our perception of beauty. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to capture raw, authentic beauty by emphasizing the colors and details that are already present in my subjects and their environments. For me, the magic happens in the moment—I tailor my camera settings to the environment and my vision, so there’s less focus on heavy editing afterward and more on capturing the reality of the moment as it unfolds.

My name, “Seshni,” means “brings joy to others,” and I truly feel like my work embodies that. I love showing people how beautiful and strong they are, especially those who trust me to capture such intimate and meaningful moments in their lives. As someone who grew up during a time when unrealistic beauty standards flooded social media—especially as a curvy woman of color—I know how hard it can be to feel confident in your own skin. I remember downloading Instagram way too young, during the “thigh gap” era, and feeling like I didn’t measure up to what I saw online. Over time, those warped images of beauty became the goals I worked so hard to attain, even though none of it was real to begin with.

It took me a long time to find the beauty in myself, but that journey helped me develop an even deeper appreciation for the beauty in others. I’ve always been a hopeless romantic and an optimist, and I naturally find the positivity and beauty in every situation. That’s what I bring to my photography—an ability to see the strength and beauty in everyone and capture it in a way that lets them see it too.

What I’m most proud of is how my work empowers people. I don’t just create beautiful images; I create an experience that leaves my clients feeling confident, celebrated, and truly seen. For me, photography isn’t just about the final product—it’s about the journey of showing someone how incredible they’ve been all along.

Any big plans?
