Today we’d like to introduce you to Spa World Houston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The history of Korean saunas dates back to the 15th century, centuries before America was even founded as a nation. Spa World opened in September of 2020, realizing the vision of CEO Young Oh to bring the first authentic Korean spa to the Katy / West Houston area. While we were not the first Korean spa to open in the greater Houston area, the land had been purchased and the plan to build our beautiful facility from the ground up had been in place long before any other spa of its kind existed in our area.
We have since dedicated ourselves to live up to our slogan and provide to each and every guest an experience that is more than they expected.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been challenges along the way, not least of which being the fact that we opened about six months into a global pandemic. Under the leadership of our management team and with the help of our dedicated staff, we were able to implement protocols to ensure the safety of our guests and employees, which has continued to be a top priority for us.
Another challenge has been spreading awareness of what a Korean spa is and how it differs from traditional spas. We are always trying to find new ways to get the word out there and encourage the community to embrace the unique customs and Korean culture.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While there are many spas in the Houston area, the Korean spa concept is still an incredibly unique experience. With nine therapy rooms, gender-separated bath areas each with five pools of varying temperatures, a theater room, napping and lounge areas, and a variety of massage and body scrub services, the spa areas of our 60,000 square foot facility has something for everyone. Throughout the facility, we even have display areas with artifacts where guests can learn about Korean history and culture.
However, we go beyond the traditional spa experience with our additional entertainment areas which can be used by the general public as well as our spa guests. These amenities include a large indoor playground attached to our café which can be accessed from the back of the building. Upstairs, we also have a virtual golf, karaoke room, or putt putt in our outdoor terrace, a bar and a Korean restaurant. Even without the spa admission, guests can take advantage of these entertainment areas or simply enjoy authentic Korean cuisine and a beverage in our beautiful terrace.
We pride ourselves in being an all-in-one staycation spot, where guests can unplug and enjoy quality time with their partners, friends, family, or even solo.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best aspect of our city would definitely the diversity Houston has to offer. From the variety of cuisines and entertainment, there is no shortage of ways to have adventures and new experiences locally.
Our least favorite aspect – hands down – is the traffic! So many lanes and yet so much time spent getting from Point A to Point B… all the more reason we love being able to provide a place where Houstonians can unwind after a week of stressful commutes.
