Today we’d like to introduce you to Travon Childress-Smith.
Hi Travon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started drawing way back when I was like 3 or 4, as far back as I can remember Is how long I’ve been into art, although I didn’t start painting until my senior year of high school in 2016. From there, just painting and posting on social media, tryna build a following of some sort, is how I am where I am today, and truthfully, I still have so far to go.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes but no, yes, because It wasn’t something I gave all my thought to at first, so time kept moving while I was just having fun with a hobby; no because I did experience a lot of burnout along the way when I would try to push myself to produce more art or to be consumed by the work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started off heavy on anime and cartoon paintings before trying to do more expressive pieces and flirt with different styles. I also got a bulk of my commissions through digital art, that always seemed to be most convenient for myself and the person I’m working with. I think my ideas and how I execute them set me apart from other artists. People tell me that can spot my work if they see it, and that’s something I always wanted
How do you think about luck?
I don’t know if I really believe in luck, honestly, luck, or coincidence; I think everything happens for a reason. Now, the debate about whether something was supposed to happen is a whole other conversation, but I do think it’s a reason for it all.
