Today we’d like to introduce you to Ugonna Agbo.
Hi Ugonna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Maxx Out Tax during a season that stretched me in ways I didn’t expect.
I graduated from Texas Southern University with an accounting degree, stepped into the job market, and kept meeting rejection at a time in my life when I was used to being the first pick. I wasn’t chasing entrepreneurship back then — I just wanted life to make sense. I wanted clarity, direction, and something that felt like purpose.
So I fasted. I prayed. And I had no idea that season would end with me starting a business or developing the courage to actually bet on myself. Before I knew if, that’s exactly what happened.
That leap became Maxx Out Tax Services — a business built from faith, grit, and the skill God put in my hands long before I knew what I’d do with it.
I’ve been independent ever since —
still learning, still growing, still proud of what this became.
The full circle moment for me is that the same courage I had to fast for is now the foundation I use to help other tax businesses thrive, with the systems, strategy, and confidence I had to build from the ground up.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. Honestly, I’m grateful it wasn’t smooth. The early years came with their own set of challenges. I was learning business, learning myself, and learning leadership all at the same time.
One of my biggest struggles was both learning the concept and bearing the weight of “favor” outpacing clarity.
Things were taking off, opportunities were coming, people were drawn to me… but I didn’t always know how to articulate the blueprint behind what I was doing. I was seeing success, but I couldn’t yet make it plain so others could run with it.
.
I started attracting people, clients, and situations that required me to show up in a way I had never had to before. I had to learn how to be the leader my business needed — someone consistent, grounded, decisive, and capable of guiding others while still figuring things out myself.
There were moments where the vision was bigger than my experience, moments where growth felt overwhelming, and moments where I had to stop and rebuild myself just to keep going. But every struggle sharpened me. Every challenge forced me into a new level of clarity. And every season taught me how to manage the success I prayed for.
Today, I’m not just running a business —
I’m leading people, creating systems, and helping other tax businesses grow because I took the time to learn what I didn’t know.. Did I mention that it’s thrived virtually for 6 years and became and brick and mortar December 2024?
The road wasn’t smooth, but it made me learn how to play offense in business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I prepare taxes for individuals and small businesses. I also offer credit counseling, business funding support, and business formation services. I specialize in helping everyday people—especially self-employed parents, gig workers, and refund-driven households—file confidently, correctly, and strategically. I value knowledge, accountability, and integrity, and I hold myself and my clients to high standards.
But what i’m known for? Being a tax business that builds other tax businesses, not just tax returns.
I teach tax pros how to scale, automate, lead, and build real operations through my tax business coaching ecosystem.
People come to me because I know systems, leadership, revenue strategy, and how to turn a skill into a business that actually works.
I blaze my own trail by helping people multiply, whether it’s their tax refund, their business, or their confidence. That’s the part i’m proud of.
What sets me apart is simple:
I don’t just talk about success — I duplicate it. I can take something complicated and make it plain enough for others to run with it. I blend faith, strategy, automation, and real-world experience in a way that makes people feel led, not lectured. And I’ve built an entire ecosystem — from Maxx Out Tax to Virtual Tax Boss Academy — that proves what’s possible when skill meets structure.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in Southwest Houston with three sisters — I was the second born— which meant life was loud, funny, and competitive from sunrise to bedtime. My mom worked a lot, so most mornings belonged to my dad.
I’d wake up to the smell of a full Nigerian breakfast drifting through our apartment — eggs, plantains, stew — and Bob Marley playing loud enough for the whole building to hear. My dad treated it like his personal soundtrack while he cooked, humming and dancing like somebody hired him for morning vibes.
And when we moved to Missouri City, it felt like we took the whole Southwest energy with us — same loud house, same sister drama, same childhood magic. Just new walls to bounce off of.
Sometimes I think all that noise and competition is what made me the way I am today — quick, sharp, and able to hold my own in any room.
Growing up with 3 sisters will literally train you for life. 😌
