Hi Vanessa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Vanessa Flores and I am a hairstylist located in Webster tx! I have recently stepped out on my own from being a commission stylist to having my own salon suite. The journey from being an assistant, to a commission stylist to being by own boss, has been quite the journey but well worth it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it was a smooth road transitioning from a corporate office job to a hairstylist assistant. It was definitely a major change and also a financial adjustment. But I knew this was the stepping stone to take me to where I am now. Working long hours to learn and grow my clientele was really hard work. But it’s just a step in the career path that could not be skipped.
Fast forward two years and I took a leap and started to rent my own salon suite.
Becoming your own boss and starting your own business is definitely a scary thing but I never gave up and I’m so happy to be where I am now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in extensions, babylights and dimensional Balayage. I am very proud of the work I have created with extensions, being able to give my clients their dream hair/look is something that inspires me greatly. I have put in so much time to continue my education on extensions, learning all new techniques to make sure I offer my clients the best of the best.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I feel like I am an open book. I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeves, so most people get me for who I am 100% of the time. But if I were to pick something that is surprising to my clients is my age. I just turned 33 and people say I look younger and ask wow and you just ventured off on your own. Well first I must say I have my grandma’s good genes to thank for that! But I also like to tell people age has nothing to do with going after your dreams and goals. Don’t let your age ever stop you from taking that next step! Success has no age limit/restriction!
