Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Munoz.
Hi Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Lotus Studios began to bloom in 2017 with the slogan “Come as you are.” I wanted to create a space where clients (namely, women) felt seen and challenged to be their best versions without the pressure of “looking the part” while doing so.
I left my full-time oil and gas job in 2019 to pursue my goal of making fitness my full-time gig. In these last few years, I have amassed several longtime personal training clients, both for fitness and for pro-cheer audition preparation. My gratitude is eternal!
I became a mom in June of 2023, and post-partum was a shock- it made me empathize with mothers in a beautiful new way.
Lotus Studios will be expanding from a personal training studio to a 2000 square foot warehouse that will be converted into a group gym/dance space to serve the Houston Gulfgate area, Second, and Third Ward.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a relatively smooth road so far, but ask me again in one year!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in strength and functional resistance training, with a focus on helping clients build real, sustainable strength that translates into their everyday lives. My training style is rooted in the fundamentals—squat, hinge, push, pull, carry—because I believe mastering these basic movement patterns is essential for long-term health and performance. At the same time, I like to weave in creativity to keep workouts engaging and dynamic. Each session is intentionally designed to challenge my clients in a way that leaves them feeling stronger, more capable, and more confident in their movement.
What sets my training apart is my commitment to functional fitness. I want my clients to not only get stronger in the gym, but also move more efficiently and pain-free in their day-to-day activities. Whether it’s lifting groceries, climbing stairs, or playing with their kids, the goal is to enhance their overall quality of life through movement.
I also specialize in professional cheer and dance team audition preparation. With my background in the dance and performance world, I help aspiring pro cheerleaders refine their technique and build the physical and mental stamina needed to stand out in competitive auditions.
I am most proud of my clients! Most have become like family to me and are so supportive of my goals with Lotus Studios.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of my favorite and most listened-to podcasts is “The Model Health Show” with Shawn Stevenson. I’ve been an avid listener since 2017 and have absorbed so much pertinent and useful information about fitness (both mental and physical), nutrition, and sleep.
