Conversations with Veronica Rossitto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Rossitto.

Hi Veronica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
This story begins in 2015, when I met my husband, Vince. We met through my then-boss and totally hit it off. Vince’s family has a 300-acre ranch in Navasota, Texas called Omaha Ranch (his family is from Nebraska). The first time Vince took me there, I fell in love with all the wildlife and peacefulness. It’s close enough for a short getaway, but far enough away that you can really unplug. Over time, things became more serious between me and Vince, and we started talking about getting married. One day, I mentioned how great it would be to get married at the ranch – I didn’t know it at the time, but that simple idea/thought/moment would completely change the course of our lives.

Vince’s dad was thrilled that we wanted to have our wedding at the ranch. We began brainstorming ideas about how to make it happen. At the time, there was only a 4-bedroom lodge on the property. Since we wanted our wedding to be a weekend celebration with family and close friends, we needed more lodging space. What started as plans for a simple bed & breakfast-style house quickly evolved into a 10,000 sq. ft. wedding venue now known as The Annex!

The Annex officially opened in April 2019. Vince and I were the first couple to get married there on November 1, 2019. Since then, dozens of other couples have tied the knot there as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there have been lots of struggles along the way! One big struggle is that Vince and I both have our own careers. He’s a structural engineer, and I’m a transactional attorney. The Annex is a second full-time job for me. I’ve had to teach myself about marketing, sales, accounting, bookkeeping, and the wedding industry in general over the past couple of years. Also, our first full year of being open was 2020 – trying to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic was not easy, we were lucky to survive. Since then, we’ve added three more people to our team: a Venue Manager and two Venue Coordinators. I take every opportunity I have to let them know how much I appreciate them because they manage so much of the day-to-day responsibilities. I am so grateful for them!
Perhaps, though, the biggest struggle is starting a new business with your spouse in an industry that neither of you knows anything about. Marriage is work as it is – starting a business, and a marriage is a whole other level! While it’s not always easy, the experience overall has helped us to grow as partners and learn to better communicate with each other.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The thing that sets The Annex apart from other wedding venues is that it isn’t cookie-cutter. In fact, it’s more like an anomaly – located on a ranch in Texas but isn’t a barn. The Annex is a modern rustic venue with certain industrial-like features, lots of greenery, and timeless stained glass windows serving as the backdrop for saying “I Do.” We know it may not be a perfect fit for every couple, but it’s meant to be for any couple that’s looking to get married in a place as unique as they are.

What’s next?
We are planning some exciting aesthetic changes/updates to the venue which will happen in January 2022. We’ll have an open house on January 23 from 12-4pm for people to check out the new space. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram at @theannexevents for more info!
