Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazmin Esparza.
Hi Yazmin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Yazmin Esparza. I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I am 24 years old and I am a first-generation Mexican American from my family here in the United States. I am married to my wonderful husband Joshua and a mom to two awesome fur babies. My story starts on the Northside of Houston and as long as I could remember I’ve always been taught to be an independent woman. I was raised by a single mother who was a great example of what hard work looks like. My passion is makeup and I am a self-taught makeup artist glamming the world one beat at a time! When I was younger I was greatly influenced by many women around me and I always knew I wanted to do something involving makeup. I now have a Youtube channel where I upload tutorials with great tips and tricks, and I also have an Instagram page where I love to post different looks on.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A good story, of course, wouldn’t come without some obstacles along the way. Not only did I go through your every day figuring out life struggles. But being raised by a single parent who did her best to make sure the bills were paid meant that I did not come from wealth. And in order to pursue a passion in this world, you will need some money to invest in that passion. I moved away from home at a young age, and my husband and I struggled early on while working on commission. There were multiple cars that broke down along the way. One I can remember specifically was a white Honda, with a hood that one time flew open and slammed into the windshield while we were on the freeway!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist and I specialize in makeup for all types of events. For example, quinceñeras, weddings, prom, photoshoots, and many more. I would have to say I am most proud of taking the step out of my comfort zone to start my business.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would have to say the best networking you can do is the word of mouth and face-to-face networking. Sharing your business with close friends and family will allow you to gain new contacts for potential clients. Also, going out to events and sharing with people what you do will allow you to meet people with the same interest or in need of your services. Can’t forget about social media, creating content based on your business and followers’ interests will allow you to draw attention to your page and create interest.
