Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Davila
Hi Yesenia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started Titas Raspas in 2023 when we purchased a turn key food truck. I have always worked in the snowcone world along side my grandmother. She owned a local snowcone stand in Clute that was known to many for more than a decade. She made her own home made flavors from fresh fruit, which were a hit in our local area. My grandmother passed away in February of 2021. It was always a dream of mine to own a snowcone spot. So when we came across this trailer I knew it was the perfect timing for us to open our own spot. We named it Titas Raspas honoring my late grandmother. Titas is what all her grandchildren called her, she is dearly missed by all.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, never, owning your own business is not for the weak. You are your own boss, meaning you have to push through anything and everything to have a successful business. Like I always say, the work is there it’s just the hustle that’s sold separately.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Crazy thing is, I am a registered dental hygienist! A hygienist that sells sugar. Imagine that! I graduated with my Associates of Applied Science in 2016 from Wharton Community College. My grandmother never wanted me to follow her path in making snowcones for a living. She was one of my biggest supporters when I went to hygiene school.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am not usually a risk taker. Honestly the snowcone venture is one of the biggest risks I have ever taken on. I knew how to make syrups and how to run a business. I will say owning and running a food truck is a completely different world of rules and regulations versus a brick and mortar. Food trucks are regulated yearly. Every year you have to get inspections done by the city inspector. So talk about a whole new world and rules. We learn daily, we have our ups and downs evey year but it has been such a blessing for me to be able to bring back flavors the community has been missing for years!
