Today we’d like to introduce you to Yung Pooda.
Hi Yung Pooda, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was 3 years old, and I heard the song “Hip Hop Hooray” by Naughty by Nature. I just remember hearing the beat and how it made me feel. I knew what I wanted to do, and I knew making music was my calling. Ever since then, I had a vision of becoming an artist. So, since a child, I always saw myself being an artist, which is exactly what I’m doing right now.
I started releasing music in 2020, and since then, I’ve accomplished goals that didn’t know were possible. I worked with some of hip-hop’s greats, such as Fat Joe, Paul Wall, and Boosie BadAzz. I rapped at the BET Awards cipher in October 2022; that was a pretty big moment for me. And my song, “Repeat Dat,” was featured on 50 Cent’s show, Power Book II: Raising Kanan. My latest song, “Already Know,” featuring A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Angelica Vila, trended in the Top 25 on urban and rhythmic radio.
It’s all been an amazing experience, and I’ve learned a lot along the way. Now, I’m getting ready to release by debut project Vivid Pictures.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been some trials and tribulations along the way. I can say the hardest part of my journey is learning the business. The whole business overall — knowing your royalties, what’s going on with your paperwork, who’s getting paid, what’s being spent, your rollout for your music, and knowing what’s going on with your career.
I wish would’ve paid more attention in the beginning, asked more questions, and did more reading. But like I said, I’ve learned a lot, and I’m sure there’s more to learn. I just continue to work hard, stay focused and keep making music.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an artist. I paint pictures with my words. I’m just an overall creative. I write music, I rap, and I work hard. I’m in the studio five days a week and put in long hours to create music that my fans love.
I’m most proud about my progress and the growth. I dropped my first single in 2020, and since then, I’ve grown a lot. I’m raising the bar. I’ve learned a lot about the industry. I’ve learned about the type of music that I want to do and what I don’t want to do. I’ve learned who my fans are. And I’ve also been able to see that I can make my dreams a reality.
I’ve become more motivated than ever to keep going because I’ve already seen so much progress. I’ve made music with people that I grew up listening to. I went from listening to legends like Paul Wall, Fat Joe, and Boosie BadAzz to working with them.
What sets me apart from others is these great features that I have from these legends and the genuine relationships that I have with them. I also feel like I have Texas on my back. It’s been a minute since someone from Texas made it to where the greats did.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
