Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeola Olayiwola
Adeola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
While my academic background is in Biochemistry, my true passion has always been art. It’s this love of creation that ultimately led me to the kitchen. Cooking is my artistic outlet, a way to experiment with colors, textures, and the perfect blend of spices to create harmonious flavors. I’m fascinated by the science behind flavor development, perhaps a nod to my biochemistry background, but it’s the art of plating and the emotional connection food creates that truly captivates me. There’s nothing more rewarding for me, than crafting a dish that not only tastes incredible but also sparks joy and creates lasting memories.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. The culinary path, like any creative pursuit, is paved with challenges. I’ve definitely experienced setbacks, moments where I had to step back, reassess, and identify areas for improvement. But giving up has never been an option. Each obstacle has been a learning experience, pushing me to grow and refine my craft.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist and a fashion designer with a unique approach, and my artistic expression extends to the culinary world. I specialize in taking abstract ideas and making them real , whether it’s through clothing or through food. My process begins with a lot of sketching, where I explore different ways to express a concept visually. Then, I translate those sketches into fashion designs, using my painting skills to add depth, texture, and vibrancy to the garments. That same artistic eye informs how I present and plate my food. I see the plate as another canvas, and I strive to create culinary presentations that are as visually compelling as my fashion designs.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Houston. It has this dynamic environment that fosters both collaboration and innovation. These are qualities I highly value as a creative. This city has diverse communities and thriving industries which provide ample opportunities for collaboration if you know what i mean and i appreciate it’s forward thinking spirit that encourages innovation and creativity. This combination and so much more is what makes Houston home for me.
One thing i least like about Houston is the traffic, especially during peak hours. Ofcourse. it’s something most residents adapt to. However, the city’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, combined with the incredible diversity of restaurants, cultural attractions, and entertainment options, really makes it a vibrant and exciting place that i’ve come to love.
