Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Renick.
Hi Adrienne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The dream of being an author has lived with me for as long as I can remember.
I knew how to draw before I could write. I spent hours creating comics and concept art for all the things I wanted to see on a page. As I got a little bit older, my parents encouraged me to read anything and everything I could. Before long, I figured out that I wanted to write my own books.
This quickly turned into my fascination for fantasy and science fiction, into two genres I love to blend in my writing. I wrote for years, all through middle school and high school, dreaming of the day my books would be passed around book clubs and optioned for the big screen – but when I first published in 2018, I learned the hard way that there was more to becoming a well-konwn author than just pressing “publish.”
It was discouraging. I knew that I needed community and fellowship with other writers, but I had no idea where to find any.
I took a multi-year break with a couple of drafted manuscripts under my belt, unsure if I would ever try again. Then, in 2022, a friend who had just restarted her own publishing journey encouraged me to give things another try. The publishing landscape was completely different, 5 years later. There were entire online communities through BookTok and Instagram of people on their own publishing journeys. It was even more possible than ever to find readers who connected with my writing, no strings attached.
I took the leap. I joined a writing group, made friends, and started believing in my work again. Now, five published books and countless friends in the industry later, I’ve found a strong supporting community, lived some of the proudest moments of my ife so far, and I’ll never look back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a self-published author, most hurdles come from elements beyond my control. Breaking even at events, building my own marketing campaigns, and strategizing around the current trends of the industry can all look like impassable walls sometimes. To combat that, I create small goals, and surround myself with my community. At the end of the day, that’s my favorite part of this whole field – the friends I’ve made.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m primarily known for my trilogy, The Rift Bringer Saga. Since I’ve always loved stories that are larger than life, the series features a telekinetic criminal, Liana, who’s forced to team up with a hotheaded goverment agent, Wallace, to tear down the rebellion she works for. Liana’s ultimate plan is to double-cross Wallace, but she quickly learns that he’s got a few tricks of his own up his sleeve.
Not only do I write sci-fi and fantasy blended together, I also create digital art. I love how colorful and experimental I can be in this industry, and how I can use that skill to get in front audiences in a creative way.

Any big plans?
I tend to fixate on one thing at a time. Now that my latest series is complete, I’m contemplating the next direction my writing will take, and how different it will look from my previously published works. In the meantime, I’m honing in on my art skills, and looking for more opportunities to get out in the local community with my work. My ultimate goal is to write the books I want to write as the motivation comes, and see how far the world takes me and my stories.
