Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexis Banger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Banger.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Senior year of college, my best friend Tori and I wanted glitter stoles for our graduation. We couldn’t find anyone to make a glitter stole for us. We spent the summer after graduation figuring out how to make glitter stoles and got the idea to make velvet stoles in the process. Stylish Stolez was founded after successfully creating a glitter and velvet stole.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We encountered numerous challenges along the way, and we continue to do so to this day. We taught ourselves everything by consulting with sewing and embroidery experts, making numerous phone calls to sewing shops, and watching YouTube tutorial videos. We’ve discovered that embroidery is a time-consuming process that must be completely restarted if we make a mistake. We sometimes work until the next day just to finish orders on time. All of the long overnights are worthwhile when we see how happy our customers are when their stole arrives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Stylish Stolez creates custom handmade glitter and velvet stoles.

We are well-known for our custom velvet stoles.

We are most proud of how well we executed the idea we had for ourselves, and now we can make other graduates happy and stylish as they walk across the stage.

Our custom velvet stoles distinguish us from other stole makers. After doing more research, I discovered that there are other stole makers who make glitter stoles, but no one else makes custom velvet stoles.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Tori and I started Stylish Stolez after having a difficult time finding someone to carry out our idea during our senior year. We were unable to locate a stole maker who could create the glitter stole we had in mind. This prompted us to conduct research, learn new skills, and work long hours to create the glitter and velvet stoles we now produce.

Pricing:

  • Glitter stoles start at $175
  • Velvet stoles start at $200
