Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexis Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Johnson.

Alexis Johnson

Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Alexis, the owner of A. Marie Logistics Dispatching Services and A. Marie Financial Services. I run a credit repair/tax business, and I dispatch owner-operators.

I started out dispatching owner-operators after shortly becoming interested in the trucking industry. My drivers would tell me they need to purchase a new truck, but credit was bad. So, I offered to repair drivers’ credit and started my credit repair/tax business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a credit repair business can be challenging, just like any other venture. Overcoming these challenges requires dedication, resilience, and a commitment to ethical business practices. With perseverance and the right strategies, a credit repair business can thrive and make a positive impact on clients’ financial lives.

Starting a freight dispatching business can be a journey filled with challenges and opportunities for growth. Building relationships with shippers, carriers, and other stakeholders in the freight industry can be challenging, especially when starting with limited experience or connections. The freight industry is heavily regulated, with requirements varying by region and mode of transportation. Ensuring compliance with regulations such as licensing, permits, and insurance can be complex and time-consuming. While these struggles are common in the freight dispatching industry, overcoming them with determination, strategic thinking, and a commitment to customer satisfaction can lead to long-term success and growth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

A freight dispatching business specializes in coordinating the transportation of goods from shippers to carriers efficiently and effectively. By emphasizing these qualities and achievements, a freight dispatching business can establish itself as a trusted partner in the transportation industry and differentiate itself from competitors.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For finding a mentor or networking effectively, here are some tips that have proven valuable:

Define Your Goals: Before seeking out a mentor or diving into networking opportunities, clarify what you hope to achieve. Are you looking for guidance in a specific industry or skill set? Are you seeking career advancement advice? Having clear goals will help you identify the right mentor and focus your networking efforts.

Utilize Professional Organizations: Joining industry-specific professional organizations, attending conferences, and participating in local meetups can provide valuable networking opportunities. These events allow you to connect with professionals in your field, learn from their experiences, and potentially find a mentor who aligns with your goals.

Utilize Online Platforms: Online platforms such as LinkedIn can be powerful tools for networking. Join industry groups, participate in discussions, and reach out to professionals whose expertise aligns with your interests. Don’t be afraid to send personalized connection requests and initiate conversations.

Seek Out Alumni Networks: Leveraging alumni networks from your university or previous workplaces can be an effective way to connect with professionals who share a common background. Alumni often have a vested interest in helping fellow graduates succeed and can provide valuable insights and mentorship.

Attend Workshops and Seminars: Look for workshops, seminars, and professional development events in your area. These events not only offer opportunities to learn new skills but also provide networking opportunities with industry experts and thought leaders.

Be Genuine and Authentic: When networking, focus on building genuine connections rather than simply collecting business cards. Show a sincere interest in others’ experiences and perspectives and be willing to offer support and assistance in return. Authentic relationships are more likely to lead to meaningful mentorship opportunities.

Follow Up and Stay Engaged: After making initial connections, follow up with individuals you’ve met to express gratitude and continue the conversation. Stay engaged by regularly checking in, sharing relevant articles or resources, and offering assistance where possible. Consistent communication helps foster strong relationships over time.

Be Open to Different Perspectives: Keep an open mind when seeking out mentors and networking opportunities. Mentorship can come from unexpected sources, and networking with professionals outside your immediate circle can provide valuable insights and perspectives.

By following these tips and remaining proactive and persistent in your networking efforts, you’ll increase your chances of finding a mentor and building a strong professional network that supports your growth and development.
