Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Sofía Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Sofía Morales

Hi Andrea Sofía, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for the beauty industry started when I was just a little girl. Always wanted to have my hair ready along with accessories, loved having my nails colored, and absolutely loved going to Walgreens with my mom that meant I would have a chance of getting some press on nails haha. My family and I moved to Houston from Puerto Rico in 2014, I learned how to do my mom’s blowouts when I was around 14. That definitely took some practice but from there I learned to do it on myself and friends. I was the friend that would do your makeup, nails and hair if you needed it.

The summer after graduating high school, I became a certified nail technician, and it became my personal hobby. I started college that same year and I was working my part-time, being a full-time student and doing nails on the side when I had time. In the beginning of my third year of college COVID was becoming more serious, and it became too much to handle, so I decided to drop out of my dream career as a Sonographer (ultrasounds). I spent 3 months just working full time between nails and the retail store I was working at the time, until it was time to go back to school.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to pursue at that moment, I was leaning towards fishing my Sonography program, but I didn’t feel the same way about it. I started looking into the cosmetology program and I was instantly convinced that I wanted to give it a try. Started in 2020 graduated in 2021 and since then it’s been a growing journey in every aspect. I’ve grown, personally, professionally and mentally. The hair industry is incredibly rewarding, but it definitely comes with its challenges. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing a client’s face light up after achieving their dream hair. I’ve learned to be a hairstylist who stays focused on my work and I always strive to better my craft.

I love what I do, I love the connections and relationships I get to have with my clients, I love creating a safe environment for them to relax. Every day I try to better myself to be the best for my clients. I enjoy having my own suite, meeting new people and have genuine connections.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I truly believe that every dream comes with its struggles, but having set goals makes it easier even if it doesn’t seem like it. The idea of being my own boss has always been on my mind ever since I was an apprentice. I’ve had the opportunity to work at three hair salons before I transitioned to my own suite and from all those 3 places I learned multiple things. I had positive and negative experiences, but despite the challenges I handled every obstacle with grace and perseverance, never losing sight of my goals. Having the Lord by my side has made this an unforgettable chapter in my life, just like all the other ones he has helped me overcome.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist located in Pearland Texas, I specialize in Lived in Color, Brunettes, Blonding and Hand Tied Extensions. I am proud of how perseverant I am when it comes to my goals, dreams and life. It doesn’t matter how hard the road gets I always try to see the best side of it.

I don’t normally think about what sets me apart from others, but I do know that I always try to just be me. I am kind, genuine and authentic. I don’t try to be someone that I am not when it comes to my business, being my own self has made me go far when it comes to my relationship with my clients. I am thoughtful and open minded and always try to bring the best out of my girls. And most importantly for them to feel the love of God thru me and my service.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
To me is very important to have empathy and compassion for my clients, to be patient, kind and have confidence. All this while keeping my professional skills such as having strong communication skills, be an active listener, pay attention to details and have passion for my craft.
