Daily Inspiration: Meet Ann Corbette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Corbette.

Hi Ann, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Ann, I had a passion for working with children so I decided to become an educator. I have been working as an educator for many years and also became an advocate for special education students. I noticed that some may believe that special education is not capable of learning. As an educator I let my students know we all learn differently and will be successful.

I’m also the author of two poetry books “Speak To Me: A Caribbean Voice” and “Mirror Kiss: Be the You of the Oyster”. I started writing poetry in middle school because I had a passion for creative writing and that my voice would be clear through writing. Writing has given me a voice to express myself for I was teased as a child in school for the way I speak. I had a very deep Caribbean accent. My family is from the Caribbean Islands of Dominica 🇩🇲 and Trinidad and Tobago. My poetry has inspired others to look within themselves to be creative and live without being afraid of trying new adventures.

About almost two years, I decided to take a leap of faith and try something new. I became a Paparazzi Jewelry Consultant. My business is called Klampion Jewels. I love jewelry. Selling jewelry has given me and others the confidence to look fabulous at an affordable price.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were some challenges throughout my journey of becoming an educator, an author of poetry, and a business owner.

Throughout my journey to becoming an educator, I was a bit skeptical because many perceive educators as more mature older individuals. I was very young in my mid-20s when I started as an educator and I didn’t know whether the students will respect or listen to me as a young adult.

I started writing poetry in middle school to express my inner thoughts but I felt my poetry was very depressing so I stopped writing and threw the poems away. I also believe no one would want to read poems some may think it’s boring.

As a first-time business owner, I was concerned at first because I didn’t know if anyone would support my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an educational assistant working in public elementary schools.

I work mostly with special education students of various grades. I’ve known for being a caring and creative person.

I’ve also known to have patience through any obstacles. I am most proud of becoming the author of two poetry books and achieving my master’s degree last year June 2022.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journeys is they will always be people that are not accepting of your dreams but always associate yourself with people that goal-oriented and spiritual in faith.
