Daily Inspiration: Meet Anthony Sims, II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Sims, II

Hi Anthony, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Texas-bred and Georgia-raised, Anthony Sims II (21). My story begins October 21, 2003, in Houston, Texas, very early in the morning. In 2009, my family relocated to Newnan, Georgia, where I began to explore the world around me. I had a great childhood split between playing outside, climbing trees, hitting home runs, and enjoying fun group activities. The other half consisted of chores, books, Disney movies, and the occasional video game session. One memory that sticks with me is when I fell asleep with my bedroom light on. My mother told me that if I practiced turning off the lights when I wasn’t using them, she would put the money saved on the light bill toward a trip to Disney World. In 2011, that lesson in discipline paid off, and I got to experience the magic of Disney firsthand. In retrospect, that moment taught me that small, intentional actions can lead to something bigger, an idea that would shape my approach to life and creativity. On my 13th birthday, my parents chipped in to buy me my first camera before a school field trip, which became the best gift I could have received. By that time, I had already developed a deep fascination with visual storytelling, spending hours studying my favorite movies and TV shows. Having a camera allowed me the freedom to experiment with different settings, modes, and composition techniques, helping me develop the eye of a great photographer. That moment, though small at the time, set me on a path. Fast forward six years: I graduated at the top of my class in 2022 and founded Main Frame Photographs in the spring of 2023.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Pressure has always been my biggest challenge, whether it’s the pressure to improve quickly, solve every problem, or manage my time efficiently. But more than anything, I struggled with people-pleasing. For five years during school, I trained in classical music as a violinist, immersing myself in a world of discipline, precision, and high expectations. While I valued the skill and artistry later, I realized the importance of creative freedom and finding my voice. That experience refined my strengths and amplified my resilience, but it also introduced me to the challenges of navigating structured environments where authority and tradition often outweighed individual voices. Speaking up wasn’t always encouraged, and the pressure to conform was constant. I felt caught between two instincts: one telling me to blend in and follow the unspoken rules and the other urging me to challenge the status quo and carve my path. Ultimately, I chose the latter, followed my rules, and allowed more fun and free flow in my work, not just as an artist but as a collaborator. In photography and filmmaking, just like in music, every detail matters. Authentic storytelling comes from emotion, perspective, and the ability to break away from rigid expectations to create something meaningful. That time shaped how I approach my work today, prioritizing creativity, collaboration, and the power of individual expression. Walking away from that chapter wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. It taught me that genuine growth comes from trusting yourself, even when it means stepping away from familiar systems. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Houston-based Black business owner, creative, and entrepreneur. I founded Main Frame Photographs to capture life’s defining moments and inspire people through storytelling. Our company motto is: “One frame at a time, Main Frame Photographs captures the important moments in life.” We specialize in photography, videography, video editing, and color grading—offering services that bring stories to life. But more than just a business, Main Frame Photographs is about building a creative community. I believe in the power of content to connect people, share experiences, and create lasting impact. Before officially launching Main Frame Photographs, I was already using media to make an impact. During quarantine, I saw firsthand how isolation affected my peers’ mental health, and I felt compelled to do something. Partnering with the Mental Health Awareness team, I produced videos and content that sparked meaningful conversations. Experiencing how storytelling could connect and uplift people reinforced what I already knew: I wanted to use my creative skills for something bigger. That experience shaped my approach to content and laid the foundation for what Main Frame Photographs would become—a platform that captures moments, tells stories, and brings people together. That belief in storytelling as a force for change motivates everything I do.

What matters most to you?
As I write this, my mother interrupts to ask me to pick up groceries. When I return, it hits me that the thing that matters most to me is reliability. I’ve always been fascinated by how people think, grow, and adapt. Science constantly pushes us to ask questions, and psychology helps us understand human nature. But beyond theory, I’ve learned that what truly matters is much simpler: having people you can rely on. My life has benefited from the reliability of those around me—from family and friends to strangers who have shown up for me in ways I’ll never forget. No matter how much I evolve, one thing will remain true: I will always show up for the people who matter. Because success isn’t just about what you achieve; it’s about who you can count on and who can count on you. That kind of trust and consistency is invaluable. Knowing there’s always someone to call, someone who will listen without judgment, provides a sense of security that no amount of knowledge can replace.
