Daily Inspiration: Meet Rico Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rico Edwards.

Hi Rico, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I believe the start of my “career” began in high school, I knew I wanted to own what I once called an “Art Business” but back then I never knew the proper name for it. High School is where a lot of my current studio practices begin, such as painting, clothing and graphic design. Throughout high school, I hand painted clothing to the point where I started a small business which lead me to design the 2010 class shirt.

Shortly after graduating high school, I begin to develop my what I once called an “Art Business” into a “Brand”, with complete support from my parents I was successfully able to pursue an art career over the years.

Currently still running my brand, “Enigma Project” as a full time Artist / Designer / Entrepreneur, with a long list of ongoing and repeated clients domestically and a few internationally. Since the early days of high school my studio practices have expanded into many different mediums such as painting, sculpting with wood, tattooing, architecture, furniture design; just to name a few.

As time goes on, I plan to take my brand more mainstream to become a global recognized brand.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel there’s always struggles on the road to entrepreneurship, some have it easier than most but as mentioned earlier I had very supportive parents along the way. The road has had both its easy and difficult challenges, minor and major obstacles, the list goes on. However, I wouldn’t have changed any lesson learned because as typical as it sounds it made me move better as a businessman and artist.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well for starters my name is Artist Rico Edwards and I’m a graphic artist/designer/entrepreneur based in Houston. I’ve been solely running my brand professionally since 2012, professionally meaning all content under ENIGMA PROJECT is federally trademarked.

I produce a wide range of work working with different mediums, all stemming from painting. I’m currently focused on expanding and learning as much as I can to apply to my studio practices to give my clients more options when purchasing my work.

My work can be recognized by its opaque colors and also it’s color pallets, for example in some of my graphic work that’s focused on social justices issues I would use bright colors for heavy topics, mainly to give the subject matter a light hearted take.

I think what stands out not only in my work but in myself as well is that I’m very prolific in my practice, I strongly believe my work ethic and growth can be a sense of inspiration for those wanting to pursue an art career or any career for that matter.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Honestly speaking I feel Covid has pushed my creativity in a sense because I had a lot of time to explore and experiment, especially during quarantine.

Something interesting I’ve learned during this crisis is that we can all be entrepreneurs, there was a spike in entrepreneurship during this crisis and I think that’s interesting.
