Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Schoenemann.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started when I became a mother.
I grew up with my own mother being an amazing stay at home mom, and that gave me and my siblings memories and a great childhood to cherish for a lifetime. My mother also instilled in me and my sister, with us being her only girls, to chase our OWN bags and get our own money, so we can be successful, strong, independent women.
So with that “hustler” mindset put in to my brain early on in life, when I became a mother, I thought to myself, “What is something I can do without having to have that 9-5, and have a boss tell me when and where I can go? Have someone telling me that I will have to miss out on my kid’s events? What can I do to be able to give my children everything they want in life, yet still be there for them?” Then that’s when I decided, I am going to enroll in cosmetology school and become a hairstylist!
And from there I found an amazing school right there in College Station, (Charles and Sues) and I took my time there very seriously. I won a ton awards every month and began working on building my clientele immediately as soon as I hit the floor, because I knew that when it was time for me to graduate in a few short months, I wanted to already have my clientele established so that way I could start making REAL money and set my own schedule. I set goals on how many clients per week I needed in my chair to make the amount of money I wanted to make to live comfortably. I was DMing Texas A&M students on Instagram, I was posting multiple times a day, I was offering referral discounts, I was doing everything in my power to reach my goals. So, here I am today, still working, still reaching new goals, and launching my own online course soon on how others can do it, too!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road was VERY bumpy! 😂 I will say the biggest struggle I faced was my family was falling apart. I was in a VERY toxic relationship, and the relationship I was in was effecting everyone around me. It was not easy, but I had to have some accountability. I had to look at myself in the mirror and I saw the person I was. I was drained mentally, physically, and financially as I was trying to do it ALL by myself. It ruined my confidence and I lost all motivation. Until one day I was like, “Look, you are the only one who can make these things change. Change them.” I had to figure out how to get my motivation back, stop looking for happiness in other people, and make MYSELF happy and find these things in MYSELF. With the support of my family, I got my things together, and left my toxic relationship. I knew what I had to do for my children. I owe it all to God and thank him everyday for opening my eyes and making me take a look in the mirror that day. I took destruction and turned it into a reconstruction. I had to build my life all over again brick by brick, but it was worth every bit of peace and success I have now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently focusing on my newest project, my newest baby! My VERY OWN online training academy! I am extremely excited for this project, as it is always something I have wanted to do. I love teaching and helping others, and I have learned soooo many things from the many classes I have taken all over the United States and I am looking forward to sharing all of that information and pouring it in to my aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs! I am planning to launch my online academy in 2022.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe each person has their own definition of success.
BUT, now to me… I think success is when “the job” is done. Right now, I feel like my job is not done. I am hoping to inspire people. I want to inspire women who are trapped in toxic relationships because they feel that they can’t do it themselves financially. I want to inspire young mothers who think that their life is over just because they had a child, and they have to get a “regular job” now. I want to inspire women, who are in cosmetology school just because “college wasn’t for them”, I want them to know that you can be just as successful as someone with a degree.. you just have to put your heart in it!
Now, if I have inspired even just ONE person to chase their dreams and believe in their selves, I would say I have achieved my definition of success.
