Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Perry.
Brittani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For as long as I can remember I have always been in the kitchen. I was the child who preferred to sit and watch Food Network or who checked out recipe books from the library. Lol, maybe I still do. Oops-a-Pastry officially/originally started in December of 2018 when I registered my LLC. I can’t remember what my original intentions for OAP were but in 2020, after not doing anything with it, I added the name Oops-a-Pastry Bakery to the LLC.
In June of 2020, I launched my home based bakery. Now, I know you’re probably like 2020??!?! *Soulja boy’s voice* Yes, 2020. I launched in June which I believe was 3 months after we all officially found out about Covid. Like others, I didn’t really think too much about Covid and definitely didn’t know that it would still be around at the end of 2021. However, that wasn’t the cause of me stopping my home based bakery. The real reason to the end of it was the driving. We never really know what we’re getting ourselves into until we actually do something and for me, I didn’t put enough thought behind only offering deliveries. Especially when for the most part, I was a one woman show.
With everything going on I ended taking a break from Oops-a-Pastry altogether and even had many thoughts of dissolving the LLC because at the end of the day it technically was still a business with no money coming in. Nevertheless, I kept it a little longer and during the pandemic, I realized how much I like creating video content. Therefore, I combined that with my love of food and this past November I made OAP a new Instagram page and started to post food videos. So, here we are. I’m not sure how far I’ll go with Oops-a-Pastry but my goal for 2022 is to continue to bring people joy by making more content (I hope it brings y’all joy lol) and in the future have some collaborations/brand deals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? More like a cobblestone street. In my case, looking back over everything, a lot of my struggles were because of my own doing. I guess you could say I have sort of a perfectionist mentality, which a lot of the time causes me to procrastinate and be indecisive. If things aren’t going the way I envisioned them, then the fight or flight signals in my brain are yelling at me to JUMP SHIP! You could say these past four years since registering my LLC have been an emotional learning curve. Anyone can easily say that nothing in this life is perfect and while I know that to be true, my brain does NOT care!
As I have become more aware of the perfectionism, procrastination, and indecisiveness in my life the biggest struggle I’ve had to deal with is finding a balance of allowing myself to feel those things while not letting them take over me. I’ve noticed that people are a huge struggle too. They will really have you doubting yourself and will trigger your perfectionism, indecisiveness, and procrastination. However, because I’m a believer of God, I know that everything that I envision and think of is just the bare minimum of what he has in store for me. Therefore, I try my best at giving God my problems/struggles so that he can help me endure and/or overcome them. Notice I said try lol (surprise, I’m not perfect at that either).
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am proud that OAP was able to be a home based bakery, even if it was short lived. However, after trial & error and after finding out what I really enjoy, Oops-a-Pastry is all about creating food content. While Oops-a-Pastry isn’t technically a food blog yet, we’re all about providing easy, breezy, semi from scratch recipes to our viewers. While also trying recipes & restaurants out to see if they’re worth it so our viewers don’t have to. My goal for OAP is to make it a top tier food hub so our viewers can find recipes for whatever occasion they need it for that will provide a wow factor without breaking the bank or their backs. I mean after all who really wants to be in the kitchen for hours and hours. I think what sets OAP apart from other food blogs/food hubs is me. While we all see/know of the same recipes, we all have different perspectives and approaches to those recipes. Through Oops-a-Pastry, I provide my own.
What were you like growing up?
I am the oldest, the oldest out of 4 children and the oldest grandchild (out of 12 on my dad’s side & out of 6 on my mom’s side). I guess you can say because of that I’ve always been in this sort of leadership role whether I wanted it or not. Well, I’ll say I’ve always been a very nurturing person and possibly at times, a bit sassy. Growing up, being around a lot of people, especially during the summertime, I had to learn how to still be able to enjoy myself and set aside time for myself while being around others. I’ve definitely grown into the extroverted introvert. I like my alone time but when I’m around people, I can still have a good time.
Like I said before, I was the child who preferred to stay inside and watch Food Network (probably not the healthiest thing lol). I also loved checking out recipe books from my school libraries, even if I didn’t actually make the recipes. I just loved learning techniques and seeing the pictures in them. Eventually, when I got to high school, I was introduced to the world of education and working with children and since then I’ve been working with children professionally. Besides working with children and food, I love videography and creating content, hence, OAP.
