Pineapple Monkey Kitchen or PMK is an independently owned and operated restaurant by award-winning Chef Neef in Houston Tx. Chef Neef an esteemed alumnus of The Culinary Institute of America has utilized over 35 years of passion for the culinary arts and ingenious flavor fusions. Inspired by his love for Asian culture the menu has been developed with a creative and delicious soul twist to the cuisine. Packed full of signature dishes designed to fill all expectations. Veggie Monkey Kitchen is an Asian Fusion Vegan & Vegetarian brand for those looking for lighter and healthier options. Currently located right between Richmond & Westheimer Rd on Fairdale Ln. PMK’s most popular dish is The Turkey Boudin Seoul Rolls – filled with turkey boudin and rice served with siracha aioli & a side of the signature Asian Slaw.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything that is worth it takes a lot of hard work & determination to be successful. PMK as well as VMK are just the start to the long journey ahead. Starting a brand is difficult & takes tons of trial an error in order to get it right. Thankfully Chef Neef has many innovative ideas, brands & concepts to keep the following happy for a long time!

At a young age, Chef Neef struggled to find his niche. His parents worked hard to spark his interest by involving him in many after-school activities and sports. After many failed attempts he was taken to the local library and told to pick a book that he would enjoy reading. He ultimately decided on a cookbook and it’s been history from there. Growing up the oldest of 5 children & a lover of food himself he was able to practice & fine tune his skills throughout high school. Once graduated he was given the option to follow his dream and attend The Culinary Institute of America. Being one of very few African American students, Chef Neef faced many adversities only to graduate top of his class. Shortly after completing college, he started working in various upscale restaurants throughout Texas. Eventually teamed up with a group of investors who believed in the dream of Pineapple Monkey Kitchen!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Over the last few years so much has changed. Society, the country & the world are all different after the Covid -19 Crisis …No matter what people still need to eat. The value of a well-prepared meal & how that impacts those enjoying that experience. It’s even more important that anyone who has the opportunity to try Chef Neef’s creations is more than satisfied. PMK prefers to exceed expectations.
