Hi Chica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has always been a part of who I am. Growing up, I found comfort, joy, and self-expression through singing, and over the years that passion never left me. Like many independent artists, my journey has not been a straight line. Alongside pursuing music, I built a career in public service and later became a neonatal nurse, dedicating my life to supporting others while continuing to nurture my creative dreams.
As a single mother, balancing family responsibilities, nursing, and music has taught me resilience, discipline, and faith. Those experiences have shaped not only who I am as a person but also the stories I tell through my songs. My music is rooted in soul, true love, honesty, hope, and the realities of life. I write and perform songs that connect with people on a deeper level because they come from lived experiences.
Today, I perform as Chica Michelle, an independent soul singer-songwriter committed to creating meaningful music that inspires, uplifts, and brings people together. I have written and released original songs, organized my own live music events, and continue to grow my artistry while remaining dedicated to serving others through healthcare.
Looking ahead, my goal is to build a lasting career as a recording and performing artist, sharing my music with audiences around the world. My journey is proof that dreams do not have an expiration date. With faith, perseverance, and a willingness to keep learning, proving it is possible to pursue your passion at any stage of life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been balancing my responsibilities as a neonatal nurse, single parent, and independent singer-songwriter. There have been times when exhaustion, financial pressures, and self-doubt made it difficult to keep pursuing my music career. Building an audience and funding my own projects without the backing of a major label has required persistence, patience, and sacrifice.
Another challenge has been overcoming procrastination and learning the business side of the music industry. Talent alone is not enough; I have had to develop skills in marketing, branding, event planning, and content creation. There were moments when progress felt slow, but each setback taught me valuable lessons about resilience and discipline.

I am an independent singer-songwriter performing under the name Chica Michelle. I specialize in soul music, creating original songs that blend heartfelt storytelling, faith, resilience, and real-life experiences. My music is inspired by life’s challenges, relationships, personal growth, and the hope that can be found even in difficult seasons.
Alongside my music career, I work as a neonatal nurse, caring for some of the most vulnerable patients and supporting families during critical moments in their lives. This unique combination of healthcare and creativity has shaped my perspective as an artist, allowing me to bring authenticity, compassion, and emotional depth into my song writing and performances.
I am particularly proud of continuing to pursue my musical dreams while balancing a demanding nursing career and raising my family. As an independent artist, I write my own songs, organize live events, and build my audience through determination and hard work.
