Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Covert.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I initially opened my business offering affordable residential home styling services, and in just a little over a year, it has expanded into so much more! Today, we’re now able to work with clients anywhere in the country with our E-Design services, providing clients with one-on-one virtual sessions, digital renderings of their space, and curated shopping lists.
Additionally, we’ve begun staging model homes for new-construction home builders, furnishing short-term rental properties such as Airbnb, and working with businesses to design and style storefronts and commercial properties as well!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor… There have absolutely been obstacles along the way since starting my business, but those are the very things that enable us to learn and become better. Challenges are always going to come up whether they’re internal or from outside circumstances, and being able to adapt and remain focused is crucial to creating a resilient business.
For me, one of the toughest parts, in the beginning, was finding what systems and structures worked best through a lot of trial and error. Sometimes there are external hurdles like major weather events, shipping delays, unexpected sickness or emergencies, and when you’re a small business these things can significantly impact project deadlines. The upside to these hurdles is they serve as real-time opportunities to quickly problem-solve and create protocols for future occurrences.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Something I’ve been really passionate about from the beginning is supporting other small businesses and creatives and teaming up wherever we can to help each other thrive. Current projects I’m super excited about are working with local artist Julio Cisne to curate a collection of unique art pieces together, and working with another local artist Israel Rodriguez on his first ArtHouse property.
The property is a high-end short-term rental property that will feature several of his original pieces and murals. Keep an eye out for media coverage and an opening date, the house will be available to book a stay very soon!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a huge book nerd and a big fan of podcasts! Some of my favorite authors include Mark Manson, Jordan Peterson, Mel Robins, and Robert Greene. Some of the podcasts I listen to weekly are ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, ‘New Mindset, Who Dis’, Brene Brown’s ‘Dare to Lead’, and ‘Stuff You Should Know’. (Highly recommend Stuff You Should Know if you love random knowledge and facts, like me!
I really enjoy these authors and podcast shows because they offer well-thought-out perspectives on various topics such as business, politics, cultural events, psychology, science and so much more. Regardless of your stance on a particular subject, I think it’s valuable to have an understanding of different views and ideologies in all of these areas in order to be successful not just in business, but in life.
