Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Thomas.
Hi Christopher, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for music started in my early teens. I started writing songs and learned every thing I could at the time. I joined marching band to learn how to read and write music. Being in the band gave me a more appreciation for the process of making music like a chef in the kitchen cooking something from scratch. Something people might not know i use to rap on my friends answering machines back when people had custom ones. After high-school I took my love for music and decided to make it a career. Going to local studios and sharing my music with my friends gave me motivation to keep going.
I started performing at open mic nights around the city. After many performances, releasing singles, and networkingwith my peers I created a buzz. Thru my manager Markesa Young i met Miss Fine Az Wine owner of the South Side Live Click. She put on shows year round that put me in rooms with Houston rap royalty. I met engineer and producer Chris Jordan at a radio station then started working with him instantly. I took an internship at his studio to learn how to engineer. With the knowledge i gained i was ready to take my own cleints and record my self. Im excited for the road ahead of me and my development as an artist. I hope to reach as many people and make an impact in their live through my music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles come from self confidence and the politics of the industry. Its a phrase ,”life be lifing” it comes from the everyday inconveniences a person encounters. Fighting through those struggles combined with struggles of dealing with people that dont always have your best intentions can be draining. Your have to really find your core circle of like minded people.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im a recoding artist, and my music tells a story of work I’ve encountered and survived through out my life. Smooth delivery, story telling, and high energy performances is what im known for. But being able to record myself sets me apart from my peers. Its another super power I have added to my arsenal.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to Camp Sky for Sickle Cell camp in the summer. I always looked forward to Camp Sky to see all my friends that have Sickle Cell just like me. Back home im the only one in my friend group that has Sickle Cell. When I go to camp in the summer im not the only one and I dont feel so different from everybody else. I have friends still to this day that I met at Camp Sky. They remind me that im not so different and im not alone.
