Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Castro.
Hi Cindy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started with Step.
There was a point when working out started to feel more like something I had to do rather than something I actually enjoyed. Then I found Step, and it completely changed that for me. Step made fitness fun again. I loved the music, the energy, and the feeling of finishing a class knowing I had gotten a great workout without it feeling like a chore.
That feeling is what eventually inspired Step Up Studio. I started teaching Step because I wanted other women to experience fitness the way I had as something they could genuinely enjoy and look forward to.
What started with small Step classes slowly began growing into something much bigger. Women kept showing up, bringing their friends, encouraging one another, and creating a community. I realized they weren’t only coming for the workout; they were coming because they felt comfortable, supported, and connected.
While continuing my career in education, I kept building Step Up Studio little by little. We grew from Step classes into fitness challenges, strength training, Sculpt, Dance Cardio, and more. But no matter how much we grow, Step will always be special to me because it’s what made me fall in love with fitness again and ultimately gave Step Up Studio its beginning.
Today, my goal is to give women a space where working out doesn’t have to feel intimidating or like a chore. I want women of all fitness levels to be able to walk through our doors, move at their own pace, have fun, challenge themselves, and feel supported.
Step Up Studio has grown so much from where it started, but I still feel like we’re only getting started. At the heart of everything we do is the same feeling that started this journey for me: finding joy in movement and continuing to Move. Step. Grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it’s always been a smooth road, but I do feel incredibly blessed throughout this journey. I truly believe God has guided me every step of the way. From the beginning, I’ve had amazing women who have trusted me, supported me, and given me the opportunity to work with them. Without them, Step Up Studio wouldn’t be what it is today.
One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to balance being an educator and running a business. Both teaching and coaching require so much of your time, energy, and heart, so there are definitely days when balancing everything can feel overwhelming.
At the same time, it’s also incredibly rewarding. I get to do two things I genuinely love teach and help others grow. Whether it’s in the classroom or at Step Up Studio, being able to encourage women, watch them become stronger and more confident, and see the community we’ve built makes all of the long days worth it. I also feel that God has placed me in this position for a reason, and that gives me strength on the harder days.
I’m still learning as I go, but I’m very grateful for every woman who has been a part of this journey, for the continued growth of Step Up Studio, and for God’s guidance throughout it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Step Up Studio is a women-only fitness studio focused on creating a space where women can move, challenge themselves, and feel supported no matter where they are in their fitness journey. What started with aerobic Step has grown into so much more. Today, we offer Step, strength training, Sculpt, Dance Cardio, fitness challenges, and different ways for women to find a style of movement they truly enjoy.
I think what we’re known for most is our community and the personal experience we provide. I intentionally keep many of my group training sessions small because building relationships with the women I coach is really important to me. I’m a teacher at heart, so naturally I want to know the people I’m working with. I want to know their goals, learn what motivates them, notice their progress, and be there to encourage them along the way. I never want someone to feel like they’re just another person in a class.
I’m most proud of the environment we’ve created. Step Up Studio isn’t a place where you have to already be “fit” to belong. You can be a beginner, take breaks, modify movements, and move at your own pace. I want every woman who walks through our doors to feel welcomed and know that there is a place for her here.
Of course, I love seeing physical transformations and watching women get stronger, but what makes me even more proud is seeing their confidence grow, watching them do something they once thought they couldn’t, or hearing that they’re starting to enjoy working out again. That means so much to me because aerobic Step did the same thing for me.
I believe what sets Step Up Studio apart is that we’re not just focused on the workout — we’re focused on the woman walking through the door. The relationships, encouragement, and sense of community matter just as much to me as the workout itself.
At the end of the day, I’m an educator and a coach, and in both roles, my purpose is very similar: to teach, encourage, build relationships, and help people grow. I think that has become a huge part of what Step Up Studio represents.
