Daily Inspiration: Meet Cody Bennett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Bennett.

Hi Cody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been a gearhead, I grew up on drag racing and hot rods with my dad and grandfather, and I was just immersed in it. Magazines, books, movies, if they had cool cars, I was into it. I took every auto class I could well into my college years and went into the collision industry for a little over 15 years before starting my own custom fabrication shop. Customs have always really been my drive and now after years of hard work I get to live it every day. I still learn and grow daily and still look up to some amazing craftsmen (and women) in the industry. There are some insanely talented individuals out there I strive to learn from to better my craft.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If it was easy, everyone would do it, that’s how the saying goes, right? Well for one it’s tough starting a business, especially one that requires a facility and lots of expensive tools. Thankfully my wife is a saver, she’s the one that really made the financial aspect happen. There have been many bumps along the road, finding good help, balancing work/home life, juggling hobbies and burnout, you name it, it’s happened. Preserve is the key word here.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am primarily a custom metal fabrication shop. I specialize in scratch built suspensions, offroad parts and hot rod parts. I also do complete builds in-house utilizing trusted partners in the area for services I don’t offer in-house like paint/body and interior. I pride myself on building everything completely custom, I won’t make copies of parts, everything for me has to be 1 of 1 and fit that individual build. I believe customs have a soul and they all vary just like us, each one needs to stand on its own, be different!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Obviously, EVs are a huge focus right now, but I’m holding out as long as I can. I love the sounds, the smells, the simplicity of internal combustion and it meets all of my needs and wants. I do think there has been more of a meld of genres in recent years, offroad builds that quality rivals and show winning hot rod, or hot rods that are built with performance as a huge factor in the design. I love the pour over from different areas of the automotive segment.
