Daily Inspiration: Meet Crystal Holt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Holt.

Hi Crystal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing hair in high school and always knew hair was what I wanted to do. It just came naturally to me. My mom passed away two weeks before I graduated high school and she always told me hair was my gift. My dad was my biggest cheerleader for whatever I wanted to do. So after high school, I enrolled in Kingwood College for cosmetology in 2001 (now called Lone Star College).  Graduated 2002 and started at good old JC Penny salon just as clueless and I could be. I stayed there for 8 months and decide to embark on booth rental and become my own boss and never looked back. I started at Royal Touch Salon in Atascocita run by Chiquita Nolan. Great place to start, she really had the patients to teach me the basics of healthy hair. We’ll really appreciate all they did for me. I went to another salon until me and a friend decide to open a salon called “All About That Hair “. When I was 24 years old. This was a learning experience for me, I got burnt out on owning a salon so we closed it after 6 years. I went to be booth renter for 4 years and decided I was ready to by own thing again. But this time, I had a partner in crime as my co-owner. Me and LaTresia Lee opened Spoiled Hair Lounge.. it’s been heaven on earth and a blessing. I love coming to work and we have so much fun every single day. It’s great when you have ideas and someone doesn’t put you down but lift you up. Can’t wait to level up on our next business venture.

I have all the love and support of my family, my husband, Clynt, who always has my back no matter what quirky things I come up with. My daughter Chloe is my funny, smart, best friend. My little family is my everything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, trying to juggle family and business is a hard thing. Plus battling with yourself, but I got a Hair Coach (Chantel the hair artist) do coaching.  Helped me organize my hair life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a short hair artist and I love colors. Starting out we have to do everything so see what you love. I was so scared of shorthair until I started and never stopped. Now that is all I want to do. I am known for doing vivid colors and undercut. An undercut can be classy, edgy, and fun.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid put a fire up my ass to get my business in order and get on my social media presents. This year I will be doing my social media to up my business. Covid let us know how important social media really is.
