Daily Inspiration: Meet Darliana Neelley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darliana Neelley

Hi Darliana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been passionate about makeup, from a very early age as a child I received children’s makeup for Christmas gifts, it was an illusion to be able to have all those sets that always made me spend hours dreaming, today as an adult I always remember that essence of my inner child which is what also keeps me strong, I think that makeup is an essence of power and transformation that makes each woman unique and is an art that brings out the best of you, I strived to learn more when I had the opportunity to model for a renowned makeup artist in the Caribbean, from the first moment that he introduced me to this world there was no turning back, I loved seeing that woman who came out in the mirror with those bright colors, highlighting my lips was something impressive, he made it look so easy, I tried to practice the same techniques at home but I felt that I would never be able to and that I should just continue as a model and show myself on camera, but I knew that I could so I studied, prepared and today I have my studio which is my pink dream place, I love coming and seeing how much I move forward and I hope, God willing, that my dreams will continue to come true! 💖

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacles and challenges are that I have lived in several countries where makeup techniques change and it is always a challenge to start from scratch, but for a dreamer nothing is impossible and if you have to start over, then the process hurts, but working towards your goals is the most important thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Makeup does not have much relation with what I studied, but it is an essence that is within me. I began to study law very young and I moved very quickly within the law career. I liked the area of immigration law for refugees, it is a demanding area that challenges you to know the laws of countries, cultures, dialects, languages. It is surprising. It is an area that demands you to speak 2 or 3 languages, something that was very normal for me because I come from a multicultural upbringing where I was taught to love my neighbor and I mix languages every day, so I repeat again what I studied and what I must continue studying is law. I love that career. I do not tolerate injustices and I support what is fair as it should be. Within that path came education and being an educator also for refugees, asylum seekers and in the countries where I lived, she was a teacher for children in language projects and to motivate their education. They were of limited resources and for many people having access to study languages is not accessible and I loved it. to have participated in all those projects.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My best advice is to follow what you are passionate about and what truly makes you happy. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that you are doing what you love and it is not an obligation but a privilege. If you are reading this interview I want you to know that everything is possible and that self-sabotage comes from within with negative expectations like I can’t, I don’t know how to do it, I will never do it. Forget about NO and focus on YES. Being positive in every situation and with yourself is the first step. Yes, I can do it! I will achieve it! I am achieving it! I achieved it! You are the reflection of what you think and others do not define your life, it is a wonderful gift from God. Enjoy every step and have wisdom in your process of love and learning 🕉️
