Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lewis.
David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At 6 years old, my father brought a guitar home that he purchased from a co-worker, with the intent of learning how to play it himself. Out of curiosity, while he was at work, I spent a lot time learning how to play it, and I realized soon that it became natural to me. A few years later, I was given the opportunity to play and sing at my church in Bellville, TX, until I was around 10 years old. Then I found myself playing at local opry’s around Texas, which quickly shaped my interest in being a performer. My first full band show was at the Hogeye Festival in Elgin, TX, when I was around 15 years old. My parents were a major part in the early days of successful show bookings, and that experience helped me significantly throughout Highschool and College, performing at festivals, opry’s, local venues, and private parties. In 2023, I decided with a lot influence from my peers, to focus fulltime on a music career. With the help and support from friends, family, and fans, I have been fortunate and blessed to get to play bucket list venues and shows every weekend!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha, I’ll try to keep it short! As much fun and rewarding this industry is, there are for sure obstacles and learning curves everyday. When I first started out fulltime, I was doing almost everything by myself. I didn’t have a full time band which created a weekly challenge of having musicians on stage with me. There were times I didn’t even have a bass player on stage with me because of last minute cancellations or whatever the case may be! However, to be honest, that challenge and all of the rest, have shaped me into the artist I am today. Without those obstacles, I feel that wouldn’t have the appreciation I have for my band, my team, and even the artists that have inspired me to do this for a living. Everyday presents itself with a new hurdle, but what I’ve learned is how to jump over it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fulltime TROUBADOUR! My biggest passion is getting to a personal level with my music and listeners, changing lives with it, and utilizing the gifts that God has given me. Nothing makes me happier than knowing the crowd is enjoying the show, letting go of their own worries, and even inspiring them in any positive way that I can. That comes full circle from the moment I put pen to paper while writing music, to playing music and seeing them dance, smile, and have fun. I always make sure the music I write or perform, has purpose. Whether that is for love, forgiveness, happiness; you name it. If I had a time stamp for the countless hours practicing singing and pickin’ on my guitar, it would be a mile long. I strive to give all my energy to the audience when I’m on the stage, but I’m most definitely proud of the band and the team that is backing me. This work takes a lot of time and dedication to be successful, and my team sure makes it easy to enjoy it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The 3 P’s; practice, practice, and practice some more. I wish I had known the importance of patience as well. There were times when I wanted success so quickly, that I lost focus on why I was doing this to begin with. Thankfully, I have a wonderful wife by my side, that reminds me of that. I’d suggest to anyone starting out in this industry, to make friends, create relationships that provide support, and never forget why you’re doing it to begin with. Create a plan and stick with it. Also, did I mention practicing?
