Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Mone’t
Hi Denise , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my acting career in 2013, shortly after graduating from Sam Houston State University. My first audition led to a lead role in a stage production, and from that moment, I was captivated by the art of performance. In 2022, I wrote and produced my first film, which sparked a deep passion for directing and producing. To date, I have written, directed, and produced a total of ten films, with several scheduled for release in 2025.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has certainly been challenging. I took a leap of faith by leaving my role as a math teacher to pursue my career full-time. Initially, I was offered a position writing and directing with a company, but that opportunity fell through, leaving me struggling to find work and make ends meet. There were times I nearly returned to teaching. However, my faith and belief in hard work continually remind me that anything is possible.
My son is my greatest motivation, and being a single mother adds its own set of challenges. Yet, the unwavering support of my family has made it possible for me to pursue my dreams. To now say that I have written, directed, and produced ten films feels like an incredible blessing. When I first started, I saw myself solely as an actress. Today, I’m proud of how much I’ve accomplished, and I know this is just the beginning.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a passion for movies with compelling plot twists, and I strive to create stories that keep audiences guessing until the end. My ultimate goal is to be recognized as the “Plot Twist Queen.” One of my most meaningful projects is my faith-based drama, *BASH*, inspired by my nephew, who tragically passed away in a home daycare in Missouri City, Texas. In his memory, we are collaborating with state representatives to pass the BASH Law, which stands for “Babies Are Safe Here.” This initiative aims to ensure all daycares meet essential standards, including certification, passing inspections, holding insurance, and installing security cameras. We hope this law will help prevent other families from experiencing such a loss. I believe what distinguishes my work is my commitment to crafting stories that break away from traditional narratives. I take pride in creating films that keep viewers engaged and surprised, challenging them to predict the ending.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I believe has been most essential to my success is resilience. In a creative industry where challenges and setbacks are inevitable, the ability to persevere through difficult times, adapt to unforeseen circumstances, and remain focused on long-term goals has allowed me to continue pursuing my passions. Resilience has not only helped me overcome obstacles but also fueled my growth and development, enabling me to push boundaries and take risks in my career.
