Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Treviño
Hi Diego, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started getting tattooed when I was about 19. I got really into traditional and started trying to learn how to paint. I met Danny, my mentor, around 2018. I was working in oil and gas at the time. I got tattooed by him for a year or two before I started talking to him about looking for an apprenticeship. I was shocked when he offered to apprentice me. The apprenticeship lasted a year and a half. The first year was just shadowing and painting, no tattooing. The last 6 months I did apprentice tattoos. I graduated my apprenticeship in April 2022 and have been working at Cry Later ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I left my job and started apprenticing full time right at the beginning of COVID. I lost my dad in the middle of my apprenticeship. Other than that it was just a typical apprenticeship. Lots of work and time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in American traditional tattoos. It’s my favorite style of tattooing. I take inspiration from the tattooers that paved the way in the early 1900s.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have an engineering degree.
