Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique Brown.
Domonique, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
One day, my wife and I were relaxing and having a conversation. We were talking about business ideas and the thought about starting an edibles business was one. We were chilling, indulging in some grade “A” smoke while conversing about it. I told my wife I think it was a great idea and how much we could do with this business, knowing that the cannabis industry was being legalized in the United States. We were so excited about the idea that we started coming up with business names. The first name I eventually came up with was Twisted Smoke, but then I checked to see if the name was taken, and it was, so then I came up with Twisted Ediblez. It was the perfect name for our edible business. The beginning of Twisted Ediblez started in 2019, and to be honest, it has been hard, we all know when you building a business ground up, it is never easy. We had some ups and had a lot of downs. I decided to slow it down one year and do a reset. During that reset, my family and I moved away to a different state and tried out our business venture there, but it was not what God wanted for us, and it wasn’t what my family needed. So, after a year or 2, we moved back to Houston, where it all started, and our business started vibing again. I have revamped the logo a little, and we added some dope food dishes to Twisted Ediblez. The food part of Twisted Ediblez is now a huge part of the brand now and it has been growing tremendously. The twisted ediblez brand isn’t just about food and snacks, it is also about the love, the vibes, and about the people we come in contact along the way.
We did a few trail ride events with one our most supporting trail ride groups, and I met a woman and her daughter. She came to me with her daughter, who has lupus, and she told me that she had our products before. She said her daughter tried products from Cali, but it didn’t help with her pain. Her daughter said she tried some of my gummies that it helped her a lot, and that she still had some left. When that lady and her daughter expressed how much I helped her daughter in her time of need, I felt overjoyed. It had me thinking more about my brand and the other venture I had been dwelling on, which is cultivation. I have been studying and still studying about the cultivation of cannabis. This industry is my baby, my love and passion. A lot of people still think that cannabis is a terrible drug, but it is a beautiful plant that produces great medicine for many causes. So, being in this industry, I not only want to just create food and treats but also medicinal plants that can help more of our people cope and heal with the different sicknesses and pain they face every day. I know I still have a long way to go, but I won’t stop because God won’t allow me to. As long as I keep God first, I know I will be blessed and a blessing to many more people. A blessing to people through my edibles, my food, and soon my flowers and other things I may create with my flowers. I just hope that my people continue to love and support our products and the love and good energy we put in it. I will continue to keep going, and I know my wife, who is my number one supporter, will make sure I do just that.
I understand my assignment that the most high God has for me, and I will stick with it and through it. I’m going to continue to help my people heal, laugh, and love through this brand Twisted Ediblez, Twisted Ediblez presents Kloud Kitchen, and soon to be Blak Konkrete Rose Exotics.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
I don’t know what else God has in store for my brand, but I thank God in advance, and I thank him for what has already been done. I will forever be grateful, thankful, and, most of all, humble with everything I do in life and for this brand.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. You know it is hard to build a brand alone and from the ground up. You know I do research all day, every day, and I took a lot of losses building this brand and still take some losses. But that is the cost of building a brand. My struggles were learning marketing and promoting. I still struggle a little with that because I’m not a person that loves to be in the spotlight. So, right now, I have been learning to get out of my comfort zone. Also, financially I struggle too because I sometimes have to come out my pockets. Well, I would say most of the time, I come out of my pockets, but again, that is the price of building your brand. It’s gonna take blood, sweat, tears, and major risk. That’s just the business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally, I am a forklift operator. I am known for my NOLA roots, playing basketball, and my artistry. I am most proud of myself because out of everything I’ve been through, I still managed to do most of the things in my life that people said I would never do, and that’s life. Even though none of that mattered, I never cared about what people said or thought of me. I was always in the “Action before Speaking” business. I always was an antisocial person, so I was always doing me with me. What sets me apart from others is that I always stay true to myself and others. I always try to remain authentic and continue to love me. I always respect others, and I always respect the same in return. I love peace! So, I try to keep it like that. Peace is everything to me.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being self-motivated, mentally tough, patient, and faith.
