Daily Inspiration: Meet Doug Forrest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Forrest.

Doug, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My creative path has included art and music over the past 40 years. I continue to create in both of these areas, from my art studio in Houston Heights and as a touring singer/songwriter.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’m not sure any creative path is a smooth road…I’ve faced challenges in trying to stay true to my calling…Yet, I’ve also had a string of accomplishments throughout my career which were personal dreams of mine and I know that each day brings limitless possibilities with my art, with new collectors who will connect with it and with where that will take me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an Artist, my time is split between my studio art and my longtime career as a singer/songwriter. In my Houston Heights art studio, I build large-scale wall sculptures from Vintage TX Wood… The range of the images I create allows for a wide audience through Gallery Representation, high-end Retail and Interior Designer collaborations…my approach is, “You Dream it…I’ll nail it!” and custom works are my main focus. As a Musician, my singer/songwriter style is what I call a Texas Blend, combining Americana stories, retro Country, Folk and Blues.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always into creative projects…Getting a guitar in my hands at age 12 was the spark that lit the fire. I knew there was a big world out there and I wanted to tour as a performer, which I did as a musician and with a hit Broadway Tour of Tony award-winning Grand Hotel (my break in NYC given by Houston legend/ director Tommy Tune) and as a result, I’ve had a chance to perform on the great theatrical stages across the country, as well as some of the best TX dives. Balance. My work as a studio Artist launched about 12 years ago and I often combine music performances with displaying my artwork.
