Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Webb.
Hi Ebony, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I began doing hair in the 9th grade. My mother couldn’t afford to send both of us to the beauty shop, and whenever I did go, I was able to feel what the stylist was doing and mimic it as it became natural to me. Immediately young girls from my neighborhood began to ask for appointments, and word traveled fast! Before I knew it, I had a full clientele. While hairstyling was not my passion, it was a great way to make money because I wasn’t able to land a job anywhere during high school. That’s when realized it was my God-given talent. Years flew by, and I found myself still doing hair it the kitchen with two small children. It was because of them I moved to a different city went to cosmetology school that was located in another city. I was truly stepping out on Faith because I also had no vehicle at the time. In 2009, I graduated Remington College and basically took on the industry headfirst! I rented a booth in two different salons for 9 year before opening a mini salon called The Wig Wall! Currently, due to Covid, I am a home-based stylist/wigmaker looking for the next big thing. As the industry has changed drastically since the Pandemic, I have to look towards the future and show the world the difference and high-quality experience you receive when you chose The Wig Wall.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has not been smooth at all. Though my talent was always there, I lacked money management and business skills. Because I started to work at such an early age, it was hard to be respected as a stylist because so many did not recognize it as a career! I also worked from home in timely manner, but my time management was not there. I had no boundaries and wasn’t structured to save in no shape, form, or fashion.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being in the beauty industry for over 25 years, I consider myself a Master Stylist. I pride myself in being able to maintain hairstyles, technique, and knowledge throughout the years giving my clients more confidence in me. However, I can’t stand behind the chair forever. About 6 years ago, I took a very strong interest in wigs. My goal is to retire from behind the chair and become a full-time wig maker! My discernment of always being able to see things differently and make them better is what sets me apart from other stylist! I will attempt almost anything to make sure my client is pleased. I’m willing to go that extra mile. My love of doing hair hasn’t changed, but I must continue to grow, and I believe with the support of friends and family, I can accomplish this and anything else I set my mind to.
How do you define success?
Meeting goals and accomplishments. Anything that’s done completely in a timely fashion without procrastination but with determination is success for me.
