Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie P.
Hi Eddie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My early beginnings with photography actually started when I still had aspirations to be a youtuber. The allure of creating something everyday and getting paid for it seemed far fetched but attainable. YouTube taught me necessary skills, scheduling, scripting, editing, confidence. It gave me building blocks to begin to pursue film.
I got pretty burnt out on making videos as i got older. I wanted more depth, i wanted a deeper meaning to my work, my ideas. All of my videos just seem to fall flat and it reflected in the views.
So i picked up filmmaking because i felt i wanted to be apart of the action. Up close and personal with the product and bringing concepts to full motion picture. I definitely made many many bad films. All self made, self produced, and marketed. Again learning skills that I still use till this day.
December 31st, 2023 would change a lot about my future. I found out about some unfortunate news and I was at a point where it was make or break. All my creative ventures are great but they’re not bringing me the income I need to have a sustainable life. So, that same day i made a tough decision. I started photography. Up till that point I disliked photography, i didnt like the “look” that a photographer portrayed. To me photographers were snobby, nosy, boring, nerdy. Funny when it was coming from a bookworm. Haha, but i digress. I questioned why i disliked photography if i never even shot photos. So, I stopped being stubborn and decided to learn the one thing i disliked the most. I bet on myself , i believed i had the skillset to learn fairly quickly. Little did i know that this would not only spark the beginning of my business, but was also the beginning of a passion that has begun to have an everlasting flame. Each photo i take is like my first photo. I fell in love with the process of getting great results, and making a source of income from it.
This is how emberflixxs got it’s feet in the game. Sure will and determination to not be a failure
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has not been easy, but nothing that is worth having is never easy to get, let alone keep.
For me my biggest struggle at the beginning was finding the right lens. As i was learning about photography I started to see parallels with the film i was doing composition, lighting, etc. What separated photography was the depth of field, the angles, the model. I chose a 35mm prime lens, which tipped me over the line. I couldnt do video at least the video people were accustomed to with such a fixed distance. I made a decision because i started to see the potential of the craft, and the potential of myself in this field seemed endless.
Recently my struggles has been marketing my business and keeping that created drive without becoming stagnated on chasing the next dollar.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer. I specialize in portraiture. Creative concepts. I’ve shot parties, birthday’s, graduations, and I continue to do self photoshoots as a way to push the boundaries of my creativity without hindering with client results. I’m not really known for anything at this moment besides taking great photos, I’m only a year in this game so rookie this gotta get his feet wet.
What i am most proud of is the great photos and leaps I have taken to make my business tangible not just an idea. Being in this issue of voyagehouston is also a huge milestone. Shows my work is reaching the right people and that I to continue thriving to reach the top of the mountain by any means.
What sets me apart is my willingness to take calculated risks. I have to leave it all out there. I put every fiber and muscle in my body to get great results. My passion radiates through my craft. I like to say that i have a healthy obsession with photography. It has become my true love.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My ambition. I don’t stop, i may fail, i may have setbacks, i may have trials, and i for sure have tribulations, and through all of it I thrive to become the best version of me. The version that when i have kids can be proud to have a father that got through created a legacy to be proud of.
