Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellysse Lewis.
Hi Ellysse, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began learning with my mentor at the time in 2015. I was in college at Prairie View A&M University and I loved the idea of interior design for different “moments” and events. When I decided to start my own company it was so scary. My first client hired me the night of New Year’s Eve of 2017. I started off very local, doing the weddings of my sorority sisters and friends, and through word-of-mouth. With marketing and so much networking over the years, I scaled my business to where I was getting clients outside of Houston and outside of Texas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The pandemic was a huge obstacle for us. We had so many rescheduled and cancellations. A lot of my clients were furloughed and even potential clients wanted to go a different DIY route.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner and creative director of Lush & Lux Events LLC. I offer event planning and design. We specialize in weddings and we also do social events. I take my client’s vision and make it their reality. A lot of clients come to me with just colors in mind, and I break that down and design their event based on who they are and what they like. We offer design and decor services too for social events.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Find a niche and stick with it. Be open-minded to your clients, don’t ever make it seem like their vision is too big or too small.
