Today we’d like to introduce you to Execution HTX.
Execution HTX, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’re a hardcore metal band from Houston, TX, and our official formation occurred in 2022. However, our roots run deep, with a history spanning 13 years, as Mauricio Moran and Conner Morgan have been making music together since 2010. Our musical journey began in thrash metal, covering Metallica tunes in the early days. Over time, our sound evolved as we delved into different types of metal and music.
After being part of various bands, a significant moment occurred during a performance at Warehouse Live. Mauricio’s friend, Parrish Bruce, attended with his dad, James Bruce. Following the show, James proposed creating a project together, inspiring Mauricio to revive the band he had initially envisioned in 2011—Execution.
Initially, we aimed to be a thrash metal outfit, drawing inspiration from bands like Power Trip, Metallica, and Prowel. However, after playing numerous shows, our musical path naturally led us toward the hardcore metal genre.
We released our debut single, “Rain,” a song penned by Mauricio and Conner in 2010, now featuring Parrish’s vocals. Subsequently, “Hellbound” emerged as our second single, characterized by high-powered, fast-paced energy, a catchy chorus, and a swift riff intro, all while maintaining the vocal style established in “Rain.”
Currently, we’re immersed in the creation of our upcoming single and music video, “MNMLMC,” slated for release in January 2024. Embracing the hardcore metal style, the track boasts heavy riffs, intensified breakdowns, and drums with enhanced groove. Excitement is building as we prepare to kick off a small Texas tour starting on 1/12 in Houston, Texas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been relatively smooth, thanks to our decade-long connection. However, one notable challenge we face is the physical distance between us. Mauricio resides in SoCal, while Parrish and Conner call Houston home. This geographical separation makes face-to-face practices and collaborative music creation a rare occurrence. Nevertheless, we’ve managed to discover a working formula that allows us to overcome this obstacle.
Our approach involves a virtual exchange of musical ideas, with Mauricio utilizing his proficiency in Pro Tools to craft riffs that he shares with Parrish and Conner. This remote collaboration has become our method for creating music, as we send tracks back and forth until a complete song takes shape.
Despite the miles between us, we make it a point to travel back and forth regularly. This commitment enables us to come together for local and out-of-town shows, ensuring that our music not only survives the physical distance but thrives on the shared passion we bring to our performances.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our musical journey revolves around the hardcore metal genre, driven by the collective passion and deep-rooted enthusiasm for music that binds us together. While we might not have gained widespread recognition yet, our shared ambition is to emerge as one of the most formidable and renowned bands from Houston, Texas.
What distinguishes us is the unique tapestry of musical diversity woven into each of us. As music enthusiasts, we draw inspiration from varied backgrounds and have been exposed to an array of genres. This diversity, stemming from our distinct musical tastes and experiences, stands out as a defining feature that has the potential to elevate us as musicians and performers.
Our goal isn’t just about creating heavy and impactful music; it’s about carving a niche for ourselves in the music scene and leaving a lasting impression. With this shared dedication and the fusion of our musical influences, we believe we’re on a path to not only be recognized as a force in hardcore metal but also to contribute something special to the rich musical landscape of Houston, Texas.
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
Every band encounters risks; it’s an inherent part of the journey that propels decision-making and goal achievement. Without taking risks, you’re not fully committed to realizing your aspirations. In the realm of music, risk-taking is the driving force behind transforming visions into reality.
Currently, the risk we’ve embraced involves channeling all our hard work and dedication into the creation of our upcoming EP. This endeavor has been a long time in the making, and the anticipation is palpable as we gear up for its release in 2024. It’s a bold step, putting our musical vision out there, but it’s through such risks that we hope to make a significant impact and push our creative boundaries. We believe in the power of taking chances to bring our music to the forefront and connect with our audience in a meaningful way.
