Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Brewer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always enjoyed baking and decorating. As a child, I always wanted to frost the box cakes my mom made. Through high school, I started struggling with depression and anxiety. Baking was where I found comfort and purpose. I never saw it as a career choice until my senior year. That’s when all the tv shows started coming out with amazing cakes and cake competitions. I started taking any little cake decorating class I could find. I eventually ventured into cookie decorating and found a passion for it.
Now, most of my business is decorated cookies and I love it. I love all the different ideas and themes my clients bring me. I moved to the woodlands area in June of 2022. I knew I had to start over and build up a new clientele. Luckily I immediately stumbled upon an amazing support group and my business is doing better than I expected! The sense of community in this area is a beautiful thing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think building a business is ever a smooth road. Of course, moving to a new area was a big obstacle. The biggest obstacle is finding balance. I’m a wife, mom of 3, and baker/business owner. I also work a “regular” job. Some days it’s hard to balance everything but I don’t give up on it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do all kinds of sweets. Cakes, cookies, pies, cheesecakes, macarons, etc. I specialize in custom-decorated cookies. I think that’s what I’m most known for. I’m proud of being able to promise my clients that their cookies are made from scratch with ingredients that I can easily pronounce. and that I’ve put my heart into every set.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m not just in it for the money. I genuinely enjoy what I do and my favorite part is seeing my clients happy. With every cookie order, I add a “thank you” cookie. That one is a freebie. I affectionately call it a car cookie because a lot of clients have told me they eat that one in the car.
What are your plans for the future?
Well, right now I’m working a “normal” day job. I’m planning to grow my business enough to be able to quit that job and just work on my own business full-time. I’m so close to that. I’m looking forward to having more freedom and time to take on more orders and larger orders.
