Today we’d like to introduce you to Jairo Guillen-Juarez.
Hi Jairo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jairo Guillen-Juárez and I am the singer and guitarist for local Houston band Man, the Moon.
My musical journey first started back in middle school when I picked up the clarinet for band. Fast forward a few years later in 2014 and I found myself working at a music store and taught myself how to play guitar.
Teaching myself guitar then led to wanting to perform live at open mics and eventually to writing my own music and forming Man, the Moon in 2017.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was not. With mental health, family and personal issues within myself, it was definitely a long and tough road to where I’m at now.
In some kind of weird way, I’m glad things went the way they did, who knows how differently things could have turned out for myself and the band if they didn’t.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a local musician based in Houston, TX. I’m the singer and guitarist for alt-rock band Man, the Moon.
I think what sets our music apart from others is the emotional depth that we use when in the writing process for songs.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The diversity! It really is the most literal version of the American Melting Pot. I’ve travelled around the United States a few times, but there really isn’t quite a place like Houston.
What I like the least? Traffic. If I had a nickel for every time I have been stuck on 59, I think I’d be able to afford Tesla stock. Oh and god awful potholes.
